Anyone else not like eating out postop?

Ever since my surgery, I don't like going out to eat!  I used to LOVE it.  But now, between being limited in what I can eat and eating so little, I feel like eating out is pointless!  I pay $10.00 for a meal and eat only a tiny bit.  Granted, I take the rest home with me, but I rarely fini**** as leftovers, because by the time I am on the third or fourth meal from it, I am sick of it!!  Going out to eat with my mom is a little better because I just eat a little of her meal, but it is then hard to watch everyone else eat and eat and eat!! My coworkers gave me a "gift certificate" for a meal out at the restaurant of my choice for my birthday, but I just can't even make myself want to go out to eat!  Anyone else experience this? I have started to REALLY enjoy cooking--and have been trying all kinds of new recipes--some with AMAZING results.

I still love to eat out.  I usually just get soup or an appitizer and take a bite or two of my DH's entre.  Sometimes my DH and I just split a meal.  They usually serve so much it is enough for two.  On the occasions I order my own meal I will eat what I want and take the rest home.  I rarely get the chance to eat the leftovers if my son finds them.  But that is OK.  Atleast it doesn't go to waste.

I try to go where I can get a breakfast.  I will get 1 egg with hash browns and the leanest protein they have.  I eat my 6 to 10 ounces and let them take the rest. Like you taking leftovers home does little to help.  It is around for too many days.  The only thing I will take is soup if they serve a bariatric friendly type.  It is too much forme and eat on it for a week.  I make a great 3 bean soup [great northern pinto black beans] with fat free chicken broth with a couple pieces of Turkey bacon.  Ruby Tuesday has a great white bean chicken chili that set well for me I look at people eating and say to myself "OH my gosh that is why I was obese" the amounts of food on their plate is incredible.  I do eat less when I eat out though.  I think it is because I am usually with old friends and they do watch to see how i handle the food.  I always get remarks like "How can you eat so little.  You can't be full etc."  Comments like that are good for me it reminds me where I need to be with my food habits. We need to be part of the world and learn to control our desires. E

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou has done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Hi there Maddie,  When I was newly post-op up to 9 months, I rarely ate out. I just needed to focus on the foods I could eat, not what everyone else was eating. My first  "outing" was to Wendy's, for a sm. bowl of chili, & I couldn't eat it all-amazing!!! I can't do left-overs, my pouch doesn't like them.BUT, it is what happens to me, not everyone. THERE IS SOMETHING POWERFUL ABOUT BEING ABLE TO LEAVE FOOD ON MY PLATE, WHEN IN THE PAST I WOULD EAT MINE, YOURS, AND MORE!!!!It has taught me what a glutton I was, and how much I have changed.   I found going to the get-togethers we have helped me tremendously- I could be with friends who didn't question my eating, and had a great time,as well! Our clothing exchanges are a great way to get to know others and share new ideas, reciepes, etc. We encourage & support each other, & get to know each other, like one big family reunion- only this one is where you go away feeling great, and glad you went!! BTW, post those reciepes gal, we need them!!!! Also, I split meals, eat appitizers,  or a cup of soup, and I'm fine. Oh, & I now after 2 yrs. can go to a buffet, and not eat my way from one end to the other & back- woo~hoo! When I see others doing so, I say to myself, "There  but by the Grace of God go I" thank you Lord! Been there done that, and thankfully I am no longer. It isn't about pride, but humility, knowing that I was that person.  Conversation has become important to me, not just "whats on my plate & what I can eat". Pleasently tell whoever asks that you are full,  and turn the focus off of food & onto life!!! It sure works for me! Plus, I now LOVE to spend time out with others. That's what I have learned from so many here- love life, live life, and enjoy the blessings life brings!!! (((((((loving hugs)))))) Ellen

THERE IS SOMETHING POWERFUL ABOUT BEING ABLE TO LEAVE FOOD ON MY PLATE, .......... Amen sister! I feel like that too! There used to be this force on me to finish everything. The clean plate syndrome. Now I feel like a winner when I have things left over.

Uh..no! LOL but I think it's great that you are enjoying cooking at home..I still hate to cook..bleck! Just think of the money you're saving by not going out as much. But do go out occassionally just if anything to be out! I do have to say though about after my first year hit..I did kind of experience a ho hum attitude about eating out..what's the point? etc..that was until I hit upon like you said eating part of someone else's meal! That totally changed my mindset..I was able to eat enough to feel satisified but I didn't waste money on a huge entree that would take me all week to eat..or worse yet..toss it out.

I would continue doing that if you can..ask someone if they'd be willing to share with you..split the cost and assure them they will not starve because you are eating part of their meal! LOL I had to convince my husband of this. Good luck!

I dont like to go out to eat post op as much as I did preop.  I to feel it is a waste for me.  We still do go out to eat, but not as much.  My husband just found out he is diabetic so I am making him eat the foods I eat.    So we cook more at home now so we know what we are eating.

I think that's great that you are enjoying cooking. Try new things, and see what works with your pouch, and learn healthy recipes galore! I wish I could get into cooking, but alas, it's jsut never been my thing. I heat, not cook. Hehe. But a healthy cooking habit definately sounds like a good habit to start.

There are only a couple places that I like to eat out when I am in Bloomington.........and that is only if the family is with me.  One is the Denny's by IU, and the other is Wendys.  I have found that I just don't want to eat much of anything, and to eat out at either place doesn't bother me, because I know I will only order just enough to satisfy my needs.  What I don't eat, usually is finished by either my daughters, or we take it home, and I have it for a couple days later! LOL
At Goal! 165 pounds gone forever! Thank you Lord!
