Mine was really low right after my surgery.  Since I couldn't take the pills he threatened to put me on the liquid and told me it was the worst tasting stuff on the planet.  He suggested I eat tomatos, brocolli and salt substitute.  Campbell's has a great low sodium tomato juice that is extremely high in potasium.  It has like 900+ mg per serving.  Then I added the salt substitute instead of salt.  I got mine to an acceptable level in 30 days. Good luck,

Brenda

Marie, I googled Potassium. The first site I looked at was one by Tropicana Orange juice. Naturally, they are promoting their juice, but they also list a few other foods: http://www.tropicana.com/TRP_HealthProfessionals/OrangeJuice Nutrition/OJN_NecessaryNutrients.cfm Other sites which are just as interesting & informative: http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/minerals/potassium/ , http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=90 , http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/potassium-000320.htm , http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/potassi um/test.html , Needless to say, I really like Google! LOL! On one of the sites, potatoes ARE listed as a very high source of potassium. Remember though to balance it's potassium content with it's starch (carbs) & calorie content. While you may get ~900 mcg with a medium potato and only 400 with spinach, the spinach is going to be better for you weight-wise. That's the same thing with the juice. OJ can REALLY be packed with sugar so if Tropicana doesn't make a 'light' version which is still high in potasium, I wouldn't count on it as a major source for this nutrient on a daily basis. Last fall, I was told that my Vitamin E was low and that my HDL could use to be improved (my LDL was great). After doing much research on Google, I hit on something that works great for both...and for my dietary lifestyle. Taking a supplement for the E was out of the question as it thins your blood and I was about to have my plastics. I found that Canola Oil will improve both. Up until then, I cooked with it and Olive Oil...but mainly with EVOO. I now use my EVOO for meats and canola for most of everything else. In recipes that you saute in butter, I use to use 'light' butter. I now use the canola for it too. I don't deep fry things much (as any WLS post-op shouldn't) but occationally, we do so I replaced the oil in it with canola oil. I've had several CBC's done..and while I don't think to ask the doctors specifically about my Vitamin E or LDL levels, no one has mentioned aword about them being low. While I was in the hospital in October, I know I was tested for everything at Seton. While they found my vitamin C was a little low, they didn't give me supplements for the others that I remember..so...I think my canola has been helping. Good luck in finding some natural, healthy foods that will help you to increase your potasium.  Sherri

Marie, Off topic:  If you go back to Ticker and copy the picture of the ticker, not the ticker code, and then paste it into your signature here, it will show up right on here. Sherri
