I was told Iron wise to take Ferrous Gluconate (375 mg 2x daily) but then they switched me to the prescription Repliva which is Ferrous Fumerate. I really like the Repliva, it supposedly cuts back on the constipation and side effects that you can get from Iron. I still deal with the constipation horribly with it though but supposedly most people do good. Its also made for or geared towards women. That is a prescription though so you'd have to ask for one.
St V's recommends:
3 Flinstone chewables or complete multivitamins,
1500 MG of Calcium Citrate
1 B1 tablet a week
1 sublingual B12 a week
My regime is:
I do 3 multi vitamins a day (Walmart brand of Centrum Complete)
4 - 5 Calcium Citrate (Citrical Petites)
1000 mcg Biotin,
50000 IU Vit D
Repliva Iron
B1 every 3 days
Monthly B12 shots and B12 sublinguals every other day.
The monthly b12 shots, Vit D and Repliva are all prescription because I had shown deficiencies.
I'm thinking thats it but it's after 2:00 a.m. and I'm pretty tired LOL Soo if I forgot something I'll remember in the a.m.

Darcie,
I pretty much do what St. Vincent's told me to do when I had my RNY. I've added a few things along the way..or take more than recommended only because the excess washes out & I've gotten good test results doing it this way. On the advise of my endocrinologist so that nothing cancels out anything else, I take my synthroid when I first get up, then I wait +4 hours to start taking my vitamins. About an hour before bed, I do my calcium..1 per commercial break...lol.
The vitamins:
3 children's chewable multi-vitamins with iron (I get generic ones...like Kroger brand. I couldn't stand the taste of Flintstone's), One B1 per week (every Monday), One B12 sublingual daily (recommended twice a week), One chewable vitamin C daily (this was low while I was in the hospital in October), One Biotin daily (I get the most mcg as I can find...this helps with brittle nails & thinning hair). On my own, I have added daily One each of: Magnesium, iron, B-Complex
Calcium:
I still have some Citrical chews left so I do two of those a night and one citrucel petite.
When I had my labs done in September, Vitamin E was low & my HDL could use being increased. Since I was facing surgery, I couldn't do any supplement for the E (it thins your blood). After online researching, I found that if you increase your intake of Canola oil, it will improve both the E and the HDL. With all the bloodwork that I've had done since then, if they were included in it (I think Seton checked for EVERYTHING), no one has mentioned them being low anymore.
For awhile, I had been taking alot of stool softeners too (3 one day, 4 the next). I had to have the Colace tablets (capsules again, do nothing for me). Then I discovered Smooth Move tea. I think I got mine at Meijer. It is terrific! To coin my grandmother 'The next morning, I'd be right as rain.'. I would REALLY recommend this for constipation!!! It's natural, herbal, and decaf. Who can't handle a cup of hot tea to help with this issue??? It comes in regular flavor & chocolate. Now..I just dream of being constipated!!! (I've been at the complete oposite since October) I would definately stay off of the Gas X if I were you. When you do have your plastics, you are going to want to get some help expelling that gas from surgery. The max dosage recommended is 4 per day. Take a break from them so they'll be more effective then.
I, personally wouldn't trust anyone telling me to go to something specific like Shacklee's. Shoot..I didn't know they were still around even! I remember my parents trying to sell their stuff when I was only about 8-10. I'm of the mind that Shacklee's might be fine if you are an adult who has never had bariatric surgery. That is not the case for you or me though! We don't have the same needs as someone who hasn't had WLS. For instance, anyone else can pop a B12 down their throat and be fine. They have stomach acids to dissolve it & get nutritional value from it. For us, if it isn't sublingual, it will do no good (unless it's a shot). I, also can't do capsules. They go right through me since I have no stomach acids to dissolve them. Being healthy with your vitamins does NOT have to be expensive! It does NOT have to be complicated. Seriously. Go to WalMart or Kroger with the list of what I had just put down that I do every day. You will be plesantly suprised on how much less $ it will cost you!! It doesn't have to be complicated either. I have a couple of weekly med containers. I put my daily meds into each little slot and then I'm all set for a few weeks. I have a little mint tin that I'll dump that day's vitamins into at the beginning of the day. After I've been up for +4 hours (so 4 hours after I take my synthroid), I'll grab that little tin and start taking the vitamins for the day. I usually wait a few minutes between each of them.
I know BariatricEating has vitamins....and normally, I'm a huge fan of the site. When it comes to my vitamins though, I prefer to buy local...and my body is just as happy with buying 'cheap' as well. If you want to check out a site for vitamins though, you might want to check out Drugstore.com. They'll probably have every vitamin I just mentioned...and at alot less $$ than what BE offers. BTW..some people really like the taste of the BE vitamins. I've only tried the calcium wafers. I bought 3 bottles because a friend told me how well she liked them. They are now sitting on my friend's shelf, not mine. I couldn't handle the texture at all. Which...that is another plus to buying local and buying cheap...just in case you don't like them.
I hope you're able to get all of your numbers in control and in range. I know you were checking into plastics and it's really important for your body to be all set as much as possible with good numbers before you go into something like that.
Good luck!

I agree with Sherri.. First I wouldn't think twice about contacting someone like Shackly or Dad's Herbal store.. Not when Walmart worked for all my friends and I would trust them first.. because they have been there! Know what I am aiming for and they don't have a financial stake in what I take. They just care.
When I first started I DID go to GNC and buy the cranberry based liquid multi vitamin.. it was good and I got it down.. Now I take pills that I have broken in half. MY Dr said they would come out whole so I put them in an ounce of water and waited 5 minutes to see if they would dissolve.. they did so she said fine. Just dont try a coated one like one a day they wont melt in the water..
Since you are going to be taking vitamins for the rest of your life look for something that works and afordable or you will give up taking them..
Best of luck finding YOUR best way to do as you should.
