My hair is really, really, REALLY, falling out

I know I shouldn't be whining on St. Patrick's Day while everyone is in such a jiggy mood but I need some advice.  My hair is really thinning out.  I am finding huge locks of it in the shower.  I'm thinking about getting it cut really short to get me through this phase but I'm afraid if I do, I'll go totally bald!  I have a friend who does weaves and she said we could match my color.  It would be tiny little braids.  It's quite lovely.  I'm afraid the crocheting of the hair would cause it to come out more.  I don't know what to do!  We're leaving Friday for Gatlinburg, TN for Spring Break and I'd like to get something done before we leave.  Any suggestions? Thanks so much, Jacqui

OH no! I got mine cut short when that happened, and it looked better for me. Less thin. It might work for you too. I would think you're right about the crocheting, making it fall out more. That would be by guess.

Jacqui, Are you taking Biotin? If not, get the highest mcg tablet you can find and take one daily. Also, take in some extra protein. This phase usually lasts 2-8 weeks for me. This latest round, about 3 weeks. I go through this hair falling out thing every time I have ANY surgery now..about 4 months afterward so I'm just getting over losing it from the surgeries in October. ~July, I 'll go through it again for the one I just had Isn't life fun?!?!?! I think I'd avoid the weave & go short. Sherri

Linda and Sherri, Thanks for the advice.  I'll be getting some biotin today!  What about the shampoos for thinning hair?  Should I get it too? I'm also making an appointment to get my hair cut short.  I'll post pictures!  This may be the first vacation I have ever taken where I'll actually want to be in the pictures! Love you guys! Jacqui

I have heard some folks swear by Nioxin shampoo. I got some, and for $13 or so a bottle, I didn't notice that it did anything for me. You could try it though, if it's in the budget.

You can't find it in a drug store or grocery store. You have to go to a hair supplies place or salon to get it

$13 a bottle?!?!  I don't think so!  Especially with vacation coming up.  I did get some biotin over my lunch break though.  It's 1000 mg.   I took one immediately.  I hope it helps. Thanks for sharing Linda.  I can't imagine spending that much on shampoo that doesn't work.   Jacqui

Jacqui, I have been taking Biotin since I came home from St. V's.  I've only lost a little hair....so far!  I even got my curl back (I had so many surgeries in the prior years, I had lost most of my curls) which I was very happy about.  Just wi**** took care of the gray. lol   One other thing is protien.  I eat only protien at every meal.  I have frest fruit or veggies as a snack.  The dietician recommended adding them as a snack because I wasn't getting anything but protien. Hope you have a great spring break.  We've decided we're not traveling this year.  I don't think we could stand a car trip with 2 teenage boys! Robin
I always said "pigs would fly" before they approved my surgery.  Guess what??? The pigs are flying!!!!
