Just wanted to say hi. I have been researching RNY for a few years now, but have just started the process. I have an initial consultation with Dr. Gupta on April 04,2008. I am just trying to get everything in order so my insurance approves. I have Aetna and Ive heard they are real sticklers. As for me, I am a 31 year old happily married mom of 4 young children. We live in southern Indiana where I am a stay at home mom. I have been obese/morbidly obese since having my daughter in 2000. Both of my parents are recently deceased Mom 2004, Dad 2007. They had a plethora of health problems which I am trying to prevent in myself. I am pretty healthy and have no co-morbs. I am excited about this phase in my life and also a little nervous about the insurance approval. I figure the best I can do is be prepared. I have already sent for past weight histories from Drs. past memberships to WW, and am seeing my PCP regularly for weight. I know I will probably have to do a 3 month diet with the surgeons for approval so we are looking for July as my hopeful surgery date. Looking forward to getting to know you all, and sharing our journeys together. Becky

Hi Becky Welcome to the IN board.  Everyone here is very friendly and full of great useful advice.  Dont be afraid to ask questions surgery related or not. I have Dr. Gupta, she is a great surgeon.  She doesnt make you do a supervised diet, but your insurance might.  I didnt have to do one.  Only thing they require is a psych evaluation.  They have a Dr. there, but they allowed me to see one in the town I live in and the psych faxed my info over to them.  So that might be an option.  Good luck and great to have you here.

Hello, neighbor!  Great having you on here.  Believe me, this site is the best for support and information! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask, as I am sure one or more of us will have the answers.  We all have been thru the same steps that you are just starting, so that helps out so much.  Good luck in the process and getting your approval!
At Goal! 165 pounds gone forever! Thank you Lord!

Welcome Becky!  I'm a southern gal too.  I'll actually be starting up a support group in April so you are more than welcome to attend.  There should be several of us who have already had the surgery and several who are investigating it just like you. I really like Dr. Gupta.  She's Dr. Diaz's partner and she did my hospital visits after my surgery.  Dr. Diaz went on vacation right after my surgery.  She did my one week post-op check up too.  She's great!  You'll love her.  Of course, we all think our surgeons are the best and I'm no different.  In my opinion, Dr. Gupta is the second best!  teehee. Good luck! Jacqui
