Need help with St. Vincent's Pre Op Class

I will be making the trek to Indy on March 27th for the preop class.  If there are any vets out there I want to know: Do I need a support person?  what happens at this class?
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

I would say it couldn't hurt. They give you a ton of information. They do give you a binder though with it in there, so that will help in case you don't have a support person. I went on my own, and did fine. Either way would work.

Hi Vicki! The time is coming fast isn't it? How exciting! As for the pre-op class, they do give you a TON of information but you get the binder with all the things they went over in it. That was a real help for me. I was able to read it over a few times when I got home from the class. They explain what and how you will be eating after surgery. Also they go over the Lovenox shots that you will have to take after surgery and when you get home.  I took 2 support people with me. There were only 3 other people there for the class and they each brought people with them. It's a long day but it's worth it. Judy

I just had my pre op class 2 weeks ago. I didnt have a support person to take :( LOL! My husband had to work & I didnt want him to take off in case he needs to after my surgery. Once I got there I realized it wasnt necessary tho. Like the others have said they give you a binder that has everything they go over in it for you to take home...

I just had mine last Tuesday.  I did take a support person, my dad, as he had the RNY in August 2006.  Having him there was awesome, because he thought of some questions I hadn't, and was able to share a lot with everyone else.  What I wasn't prepared for was how long we had to wait! My paperwork said to be there at 8:30, and we were.  However, they didn't take us up to class until 9:30! Starting around 9, they called us back one at a time to have our official 'pre op' weight recorded and our 'before' pictures taken.  So my suggestion...take something to read!! Dad and I were bored crazy waiting.  In addition to the binder of information and Lovenox kit (which has the sharps disposal bottle inside, no meds), you also get your little St V's lunch bag with sippy cup and baby spoon inside.  Lots of great information and plenty of time to ask questions! Good luck!
