Calling all Lap Bandsters!

As you may already know, St. Vincent has free bariatric support groups throughout the month.  They have a special group called "Reflections" for people 3 or more months post-op, and they break this group down into type of surgery.  However, they don't usually get enough lap banders there for us to have our own group.  The next meeting is this Thursday at 6:45 pm in the Bariatric Center main office, on the St. V Carmel campus.  I'll be going, and I hope to see others there ... I know you're out there!

Jessica, Would you happen to know if these are open to everyone, regardless of where they had their surgery? I think alot of the lap banders on our board had theirs at St. Francis. Sherri

Good point, Sherri ... these groups are open to anyone who has had the surgery, anywhere, any doctor.  If it's like the main support group that St. V hosts, they'll ask who did your surgery and when, but they sure don't care if it wasn't at St. Vincent.  Also, the Reflections group is open to ANY post-op 3 months or longer, they break it up into RNY, DS and lap band once you're there.

Unless things have changed all are not welcome to attend. I went to the St V's support group at Speedway and when they found out that I had my surgery at Wishard I was very nicely told not to come back!

I'm surprised to hear that ... on Monday I'll call the bariatric center and ask what their current position is on allowing non-St V patients at the meetings.

I would seriously LOVE to attend this, unfortunately my health isn't going to allow it this time. Is this a constant thing? Like every month or whatever? I really love sharing my banding success, stratagies, and learning with others. Especially so since I"m a little over 2 1/2 years out. Almost 3 years out. If it comes up again, let me know.

Hi Jodi, The group is every 4th Thursday, so there will be plenty of future opportunities to attend.  I'd love to meet you and hear more about your band experiences! Jessica

I spoke with the St. V bariatric center today and they said that anyone is welcome to attend their mettings, that their policy is not to exclude anyone.  I don't know if it's always been like this, but that's what they're now saying.
