I'm home from surgery

I just got home! Well I shouldnt say home. I am at my Mom's for a few days. I am pretty surprised at  how rough I feel. The only time I have much pain is when I try to get out of a chair, toilet or bed..Even the hospital beds were a nightmare.  Right away I started complaining about being sick to my stomach. I was given ice chips  for the remainder of the day after the surgery. Today I was given chicken broth and jello. It came right back up. The nurses brought all kinds of meds to put in my iv and non seemed to work, ended up vomiting again. This really upset me because I know it isnt good to vomit with the lap. And no I wasnt eating or drinking too fast. I sippped and waited a while then took a bite of jello that was about the size of my pinky fingernail. When Dr E came to see me this morning I told him I was really worried about the vomiting. He told me not to sweat it too much. He said we ideally dont want you to vomit, but nausea is very common after this type of surgery. He also sent me home with some suppositories for the nausea. So I am really hoping this didnt do anything to damage to my band. But I cant beat myself up over it either. I tried everthing in my power to stop it. The lady in the room next to me had a lap band put in by Dr E and she was vomiting too. So I gues it is common....

Angie, I am glad that you are out of the hospital and with your mom. I know it isn't uncommon to be nauseated and vomit. That does happen. I know that in no time at all you will soon feel better. I was in the hospital for 8 days because after my open RNY I couldn't get the fluids down. They just wouldn't go. They took another upper g.i. and found out there was a lot of swelling and so dr. put me on ice chips for 3 days and after that I could get them down. Sometimes that is what causes the nausea too.  Get Well Soon

Hang in there!  Dr. Evanson sews the band in securely to the stomach, so it's unlikely that vomiting will make it budge.  Use the medicine he gave you, even if it makes you groggy, and sip very slowly.  It'll get better, and it's worth it.

Welcome home Angie!  I wouldnt worry too much about the vomitting.  Just use you medicine and you should be fine.  I didnt have the lap band so I dont know much about that.  But I did vomit for about 3 days after my RNY or should I say dry heaved.

Welcome home my friend!  Congrats on a successful surgery.  Just think about all the benefits from the surgery after you get through these first tough weeks.  You will be able to walk better and be more mobile and agile.  What a blessing. My surgery is Wednesday so I'll be joining you in a bit of pain soon enough.
