Self pay question

In the past year, since my initial consultation, I have been turned down repeatidly by my husband's Insurance Co.  So now I have to plan on paying for this myself. Does anyone know a rough figure that St. Vincents, Carmel, charges for self pay patients? I had my consult with Dr. Jones, but do all the Dr.'s at St. Vincents charge the same for self pay patients?  I realize complications will add to bill, just need to know a ball park figure so I can figure out how I can do this. Also do they have a payment plan, or make low interest-low payment medical loans thru a company that they can set up?  Thanks to all that can help me, this is so frustrating!

I called St Vincents in August of 2007 when I was serious about self pay and they said it was $26,000 estimated TOTAL whi*****luded anestishia, hospital and doctors fee. I ended up going to Team Bariatrics in Goshen Indiana because I like the surgeon there much more and it was closer to my home.  I paid $28,000 for my LAP RNY surgery in Jan. 2008

I don't have a number for you but remember EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIABLE!   The insurance companies negotiate for their terms - you can negotiate for yours.  If you are paying cash you have more room to negotiate.  I used a home equity loan for my plastic surgery.  There are also finance companies who deal only with medical loans.  You might try google-ing them.  Hospitals can usually set up payment programs but you will be paying FULL price if you have them do that. Just keep repeating to yourself, "It's my money or their money."

Ok, well I am not sure which surgery you are thinking about having. I had Lapband with Dr. Curry in Cincinatti at Jewish Hospital and they had a special not Self Pay Pt. 12,565.00 plus $400 consult fee which Paid ofor all the Paper work including pre surgery Diet. so it is just under $13,000.00 total.

I called St V's within the last 2 weeks to inquire as I'm interested in the surgery but insurance won't cover it.  They sent me info that said $20,000 for the hospital plus 3000-5000 for the surgeon.  They do have a company that will finance.  I can't remember the name.  It was ABC finance or something.  If you call St V's and ask they will send you the information including the brochure regarding financing.  I'm still debating it myself.  I have three kids to put through college in the next 6 years (2 of them will go in the next 3 years) so I have to decide if I want to spend the money or not. Hi,  I just had my surgery a few days ago ( thurs 3/20 ). I had Dr. Huse. My insurance would not cover anything. I talked to martha @ St. Vincent's Carmel. With the discount the hospital fee was $20,000 this included everything  except the Dr. fee of $5,000. for the surgery, plus 225.00 for the consult fee which was $25,225 total. I paid this in advance before thy would do it.       Dave

I was self pay at St. V's Nov. 2005 with Dr. Jones.  I paid, as you may already know, $ 20,000 to the hospital and about $ 4,000 to the doctor.  I did have complications and ended up in the hospital for 13 days.  If you would like to know more about those costs just email me and I will be glad to share the information with you.  The one thing I am sure of is that if you have complications - St. V's is where you want to be!   Smiles - Lisa

Thanks to all *****plied to my self-pay question.  Wow, I can't imagine , if this is a discounted price,  what they charge the insurance companies!  Big decision.  For those that did self pay, are any of you sorry after a few months or years  that you took out loans to pay for your surgery?

When I went to the informational seminar at Clarian, they did mention that they can refer you to a financial company that will finance the cost of the surgery. Hope that helps!! Michele
