As I was going through my packet and my medical records, I had a question about the 3 or 5 year weight history.  I have documentation that my BMI was over 40 3 & 5 years ago. However, I have been dieting off and on over those years and my weight has fluctuated a bit. Sometimes its under 40, but never under 35. I have Aetna insurance and here its what it says "

Presence of severe obesity that has persisted for at least the last 2 years, defined as any of the following:

  1. Body mass index (BMI)* exceeding 40; or
  2. BMI* greater than 35 in conjunction with any of the following severe co-morbidities:"

Do you think I will have a problem getting approved if my weight has fluctuated under 40 BMI when on a diet?

I think that what you have should be okay. I'm not an insurance expert but it does show that you've dieted lost weight and gained it back. Do you have any co morbidities??

I was worried about the samething and was in the exact same situation as you, and got my approval last week.  :)  But I also have different insurance which is UHC.  Instead of sending in one weight for each year, I sent in my highest weight of that year.  So my highest weight no matter what month for each year.  Good Luck
