day 1 on my own question
silly vitamin question. i know that i have to take 3 a day. do i need to space them out, or can i take them all at once in the morning? i know i have to space out pills by 10 minutes and the calcium citrate 2 hours after vitamins and the carafate 1 hours before food or 2 hours after. what about the prevacid? any night or morning requirements? the whole hospital stay is rather hazy, and i cant' remember when they gave it to me. lol, i didn't realize the timing of this stuff had to be so precise to get it all in in a day. so much to try. i don't mind the milk/powdered milk stuff if it's chocolate flavored. i just am not at the bottom of my first 8 oz sippee cup. i hope i can speed up.
I don't take Previcid but I take Protonix which is for the same thing pretty much. I take mine in the morning. I take it with vitamins and my other pills . I wouldn't take the vitamins at the same time. I would space them out morning, afternoon and night. It is important not to take the calcium with the vitamins because you won't absorb the calcium if you do. Sometimes the timing is important with certain things and others is more giving. Remember that no question is silly, that is the way we learn and this is a learning experience. Good luck getting everything in, I know it is hard at the beginning. It will come in time. Just remember that you can only do the best that you can. I remember telling my doctor that I couldn't get all of the fluid in and he told me it will come in time. It does get better the more time out.
I think that is a good goal for you. I still at times have problems getting the fluids down but like the doctor said it is getting better. It will come in time and don't expect to much of yourself right now. You are just out of surgery a few days and give yourself a bit of time. You are doing good. Like I said it is a learning process and I am still learning. I think I will be for a long time. I know some people that had surgery years ago and they still learn things too. It is a new life and that means getting to know it and understand it and yourself.
It is a really wierd feeling to go from being able to eat lots of food and water to just 2 ounces and sipping. I was amazed at the change. You will work it out and a new normal life will come out. You have a great day and let things happen as they can. E

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou has done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
I also take all of my vitamins together..but since I'm on synthroid, I start them 4 hours after I take it and my calcium at least 4 hours after that (I usually save it as a night time snack since I still have some 'chews' left),,this, as per my endocriniligist. Otherwise, the vitamins were affecting the effectiveness of the synthroid & calcium. If I had to space them out too? Along with the prevacid & carafate that you are on??? I've NEVER get it all in! LOL! The prevacid..when I was on it, I also took it in the morning...BEFORE I had a chance to eat anything that might tick off my pouch.
Congrats by the way!

Hi Allie,
According to my nut at Clarian bariatrics, you should space your calcium (500 mg max) out at least 2 hours apart. She says that no one (with or without wls) can absorb more than 500 mg of calcium at a time. I do space my vitamins out, also, because I feel like I have more energy if I do. So I take my vitamins 1st thing in the morning and right before bed. Then I take my calcium in 500 mg doses about 10:00 , about 12:30 or 1:00, and late afternoon (about 3:30). Like Sherri, I have to take Synthroid also. But since I have to get up every night to go to the bathroom (thanks to two pregnancies and a weak bladder!
), I just take it then. That way I don't have to throw off my day schedule.
Don't panic about all this though. The first 3 months are the hardest. As you get farther out, you'll be able to drink and eat more that just your 2 oz at a time and it will get easier to get your fluids and your pills in. Just be patient with yourself and keep at it. You'll do fine.
