How long after surgery do you think it will be before I can ride horses again?

Like any other exercise, you should wait till you are released by your surgeon.  My guess would be 6 to 8 wks.  What kind of horses do you ride?  English/Western?    I have a saddlebred and dabble in dressage.  I really just ride for pleasure, I don't compete.  I'm thinking about getting a western saddle for trail rides but I don't know if my boy is brave enough to do trails or I'm brave enough to try him on them.  I'm not the best rider yet.  I've loved horses all my life but never had the opportunity to have one till 4 years ago.  I was to fat to ride him pre-op.  I tried and found myself on the groud to many times and that hurt.  Also lost a lot of self confidince.  Started to ride more last year and got back some of it.  I need to make myself get out there more and ride more this summer.  It is the only way I'll improve.  I didn't see a surgery date. Are you post op yet?  Where do you live?

I started taking riding lessons about five months after surgery. I don't know that you would have to wait that long. But I would give it a good while to get all healed up, with the bouncing and potential for falling and such.

Dr Gupta released me to do anything I wanted at 6 wks.  So I would say at 6 wks you would be fine, but I would ask her just to make sure.  I am gonna get out this summer and ride our horses.  I will have to be easy on one of them because she is bred.  We have Kentucky mountain horses, we ride western.
