Hi Everyone,
I'm am 11days out , and doing well with the RNY surgery itself. I'm doing good now with protien, vitamins, and  fluids after having a slow start on them. My problem is the stage I'm on now, Pureed foods. This is from week 2-6. Im allowed 2 oz/ meal (3 meals/ day) which is not the problem. This stage also allows alot more foods, (Protien, starches, vegetables, and fruits). The problem is pureeing eggs, meats,ect...  I'm use to chewing something with substance, the thought of drinking meat and eggs and other stuff, just grosses me out. How much do you actually puree these. Can it have some substance or does it have to be near liquid state?? I know this is probabaly all in my head. Any suggestions for this phase of preperation would be helpful

 Thanks so much,

Dave, when I was on prueed foods I would put them in the blender but made sure they had some thickness to them. I would put refried beans in and then heat them with cheese on top, there is soups. I used split pea, bean with ham~basically anything with a higher protein in them. You just check the protein on the label. I would put them in the blender and add just a bit of water to them. That way they were thick and had some substance to them. My NUT told me that I could have soft baked fish on a pureed diet too. So I tried that and it was fine. You will get through this, I promise. I missed the chewing too but then when you get to chew you forget the pureed stuff. Just keep your eye on the prizes at the end of this. They are fantastic!!!!!!

I am six weeks out and almost done with the pureed stage. I have eaten pretty much the same thing everyday. I eat half a soft scrambled egg for breakfast, canned  tuna with salad dressing for lunch and canned chicken with salad dressing or FF gravy for dinner. I do not puree any of it. If you chop it up good with a fork you are alright. I also have been eating green bean and carrots. I just cook them until soft and mash them up some with a potato masher.  I have had no problems and the nut did not have any problems with my diet.  Hope this helps. Cathy

I agree with the baked fish.  I used Talipia fillets from Kmart.  They were about 3 ounces and on sale for 1.99 a lb if you bought a 10 lb box.  It got me through 3 months. I never was able to tolerate any pureed foods.  I stayed with Instant potato, baked fish and refried beans, At 5 months out I could eat pickled vegtables and used that for the vegtable course and snack.  I still eat pickled veggies. For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou has done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Dave, I didnt puree any of my foods either.  I just chewed them up really well.  You should be ok with doing that.  I wasnt allowed to have meats on the puree stage, so I dont know about that.  I am 6 mos. out and have some trouble with beef.  It is almost too dry and gets stuck.  Another good protein is cottage cheese. I ate a lot of that when I was on the stage you are on and cheese sticks.
