surgery postponed

Just as I feared would happen, this damn cough post poned my surgery.  My husband and I got to St V this morning right at 10, and by 11 we were back in the van.  The nurse had Dr Evanson come over and check me, and he said he just couldn't do it until I'm over the cough.  My husband has complete faith and trust in him now, and told him he was thrilled he wasn't going to operate on me when I'm not feeling 100%, but it still was very disappointing.  I cried for a while, but in my heart, I know it's the right thing to do. I went to our family doctor this afternoon when we got back in town, as the nurse told me I was spiking a slight fever this morning and my BP was sky high.  They got me right in, BP was normal, but I have an ear infection and bronchitis.  Knowing that, I agree...no way did I need to have surgery today.  Still disappointing...I've been so ready for this for months!! No new date yet, he said he'd have Vicki juggle the schedule around and get me a new date two weeks from now, to give my lungs time to clear up and heal. back to waiting.....

Amy, it is a good thing that he did what he did. He only had your best intrest at heart and that is the sign of a wonderful and caring doctor. I know that is disappointing but before you know it it is going to be the date that your new life begins and all of this is going to be a distant memory. Keep your chin up and get some rest so you will be ready to jump right into your new birthday. Make sure you get lots of fluids and rest. Love and hugs to you, my friend.  I'm Sorry I'm Sorry I'm Sorry I'm Sorry I'm Sorry I'm Sorry

Amy this is for the best...If you have bronchitis you would have a real tough time with that spirometer after surgery and would probably get pneumonia...which would NOT be good! Hang in there...you have waited this long...2 weeks will be here before you know it! huggggggggs Janene

Lord, keep me in your will so I won't be in your way.

I can only imagine how disappointing it had to be to go home without the surgery.  I know I would have cried too.  But it is a good thing that he postponed it -- last month at work we had a patient who had an emergency c-section and she happened to have a cold.  They were unable to get her off the ventilator and breathing on her own for almost 24 hours after her surgery.  (The ventilator is the machine that breathes for you while you are asleep in surgery.)  It was a good reality check that surgery is serious stuff even though we deal with it everyday -- and it is best to be as healthy as possible! And just think how painful coughing after surgery would be -- ouch! Hopefully it won't be long before you get your surgery. Jennifer

You already know it was for the best to not go ahead with the surgery.  You more than likely would have gotten pneumonia.  You probably feel pretty yuck just from being sick and then add a surgery on top of that, you would have felt like death warmed over.  Not good!  Just stay away from anyone that is sick from now until surgery so you dont chance getting anything else. Hugs to you for being disappointed....you will have that surgery in a couple of weeks.

Gail, thanks so much for thinking of me! I'm feeling a LOT better now, the cough is virtually gone and that alone has made a huge difference.  Even better, I got my new date today!! Vicki said it will either be the 22nd at 3:30pm or the 23rd at 2:30pm, but she sounded like the 23rd was more likely.  She said she'll check with Dr E on Friday and then let me know for sure, but either way, I have a date! I was a bit bummed it's another two weeks out, but this gives me some extra time to get completely rid of the cough. Thanks so much for the healthy wishes and thoughts, it's definitely helped!!
