Dr. Unni just called me about the 24 hour urine test and I am not happy. He told me that I have high calcium in my urine and a high PH level too. I am going to have to go on a water pill one time a day and then anothe pill 3 times a day. I told him about the rny and how we can dehydrate easily and he told me that I am just going to have to up the fluid intake to compensate for it. I just said "Oh God." I just have a hard enoug time getting the water down and I am not going to have room for that and food. It just isn't going to fit. I can't get it down all the time now so I am not sure what I am suppose to do. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Dr. Unni is going to talk to Dr. Stanish and he is going to send me orders for blood work. I have to get that and then we will go from there. I am suppose to start the medicine in the morning and then when I see Dr. Stanish is a couple of weeks I am suppose to talk to him then. I see Karen his nurse in the morning for my 6 month check up and blood work orders. I am going to talk to her about this in the morning. I would appreciate any help that you all can give me on ideas or whatever and I would also appreciate prayers for this too. Thanks so much for listening to me go on and on about this thing. I am at a loss since I never had problems with any of this until last year and I guess that shows your body can change at a drop of a hat. I was 52 when I had my first kidney stone. Who would guess? Not me. Thanks for listening. Bill just got back with the pills and one (the one I take three times a day) is the size of a horse pill and you can't break, crush or chew them. I called the pharmacist and he told me to call the doctor and let him know and see if there is something else he wants me to have. I am tired of this stuff already and it is just starting.

Thanks Janene for the kind words. Now I know why I love friends like you. I am taking the pills with me to my 6 month check up in the morning and see if there is something she can do. There more than likely isn't but the urologists office is just down the road and so I am going there afterwards. There has to be something else that they can give me. I told Bill that I wished I had never had the surgery and he told me that I would still have the kidney disease and I told him at least I would be able to take the pills for it. He told me that I am not the only person who can't take big pills and they will find another kind for me to take. I know in my heart I was into the self pity at the time and I would still have the surgery again in a heart beat. Self pity can do a lot can't it?! I figure even if they can give me a smaller dose and so what if I would have to take a million of them a day, I could do that. lol

Brenda, Trust me hon, I know how hard these little stumbling blocks can be. I have never regretted ahving the surgery. I DO regret not listening to the doctors & changing my eating & exercise lifestyle years ago so that I wouldn't had needed the surgery to being with. For most meds, there is a liquid option. Ask the doctor is there is one. If prescribes a liquid med though, I would ask the pharmacy to put some flavoring in it (like they do for kids meds) so that it won't taste so bad. I haven't had a liquid yet that naturally tasted good! LOL! The one you have..is it a capsule or tablet? I would recommend your dropping one into a glass of water. Then wait 5 minutes. If it hadn't dissolved, it won't in your pouch either. Another indication that a different drug/form of the drum is needed. Don't worry too much about the water pill. The water you drink won't be staying in your body very long since the purpose of the water pill is to remove the excess water from your body. So...you'll be thirstier! Just keep in mind though that it is THIRST, not HUNGER. Many pre-ops can't tell the difference. They think they are hungry when really, what they 'need' is a tall glass of H2O! So..I wouldn't be surprised at all if you thought you were hungrier all of a sudden. Drink a tall one instead! Sherri

Thanks Sherri, I talked to the nurse about it this mornig and she told me that is available in liquid. She told me that one of the liquid forms is effervescent and if I get that (but I told them I couldn't take the fizzy one) I could let it sit for about a half hour. I would be afraid that the fizz may be an important part of the medicine though. I can't take them any other way except whole. The bottle says not to chew, crush or break and the pharmacist looked it up and I can't put it in water and then drink it either. There is a way out of this. I took the water pill just a few minutes ago. I use to take them because of the CHF so I am use to them but before surgery. I will get through this because God brought me to it and so he is going to get me through it. I send you love and hugs and I know that if there is ever a problem Sherri comes to the rescue. Thanks for being you, sweetie.
