St. V in Carmel's Dietician's
Of course I have to see the dietician after my 1st visit with Dr Evanson since my surgery. I am not really clear what we will do at this visit. Am I required to take a journal of my daily eating for the dietician to look at? I have a sample in my binder that was given to me at my pre op class. But I was never told that I had to take it in or anything like that. Do all of you keep a journal and take it to your dietician?
Angie,
I think you guys see the same nuts I do..the ones in Building 4 of St. V's Carmel. Every time I go, they just have me fill out a paper where I estimate how much I'm eating, drinking, and the vitamins I take. When I see them, they go over that form and if I'm having trouble with anything...say if milk-based protein is giving me problems, they'll offer suggestions to help out (like Isopure...
). She will also weigh you, and at intervals, take your measurements. They also take anniversary photo's of you.
Really, the nut visit is no big deal.

Are you going to be there tomorrow? I have an appointment with the dietitians at 1:30. :) If your there round that time I'll keep an eye out for you.
I didn't use the sample sheet or log my food immediately post op or until I started eating soft solids and I log it for myself I've never taken them with me to the dietitians we just discuss different things. It's pretty easy. :) If you want to take a food log with you feel free.
I have seen the dieticians each time I visit the doctor and yes I always take my food journal. That is the one thing I am very faithful about doing each day. It is my accountability system. At the end of the day I can reflect that I have actually got my 65-75 grams of protein and at least my 64 oz of liquid and if I haven't then I can think of some way to get it in. I think it has kept me on track for the most part. There have been a couple of days that I just don't want to do the stinking thing so I don't fill it in for that day but those days are very few and quite far between. I have used the sample in the notebook that was given to us in nutrition class. I copy it at work and then come home and put a cover on it. It folds to a 5 1/2 x 8/12 size and staple in in the middle. When I copy it I usually make about 20 sheets that will give about a month to 6 weeks. Lately at work I scribble down what I eat and drink on a little piece of paper and then tape it onto that days sheet. Now for the dieticians looking at it. Some have and some don't. I have seen Ellen 2 times and she never even cracks it open. Melinda and Cindy have at least flipped through it which is what I like.
My first visit with the nuts, I brought in my journal ... I had been meticulous about documenting all my food, fluids, vitamins and exercise. She didn't even glance at it! Like Sherri said, they have you fill out a one-page form each visit, weigh you, talk about any obstacles etc. It all depends on how you're doing.
