Could I have input on which protein bars are good tasting and good for you. I picked a couple up from Walmart the other day. They are 1.74 oz. , 20 grams protein, 2 grams of surgar,190 calories,6 grams of sugar alcohol. Are these acceptible, or is there ones a lot better for you ????? Thanks, Dave

LeeAnn, what are you talking about when you mention Snickers protein bars? I have never seen them around here. Where do you find them and what are the nutrients in them? Are they good?

Those sound pretty good nutritionally as far as protein bars go! I would just do like one a day to supplement, if you are still eating three meals in addition to the bar.

Dave, I have tried the Adkins, South Beach and Pure Protein bars. My wls nurse suggested the Pure Protein but that is only on the advise of another patient. Personally I think the Adkins bars are bad, I can tolerate the Pure Protein bars the the South Beach is much better. I would go with one a day and eat the one you like the best. Bu****ch the sugars and the sugar alcohol. To much of either of those and it could be dumping time! Wish you the best and let us know what ones you choose.

Hi,  Everyone is differant- but my Dietician said to use the following- only one a day, as a suppliment and eat small amts, chewed well. I will cut them up in 5 pcs. and eat them as a snack.(I  even keep them in the fridge, so they are alittle harder to chew- makes me take longer) but thats just me.  Anyway, the following I know are approved---Zone bars;Protien Plus;Pure Protien;Adkins ADVANTAGE; MetRx ProtienPlus& Kashi. Personally, the Kashi ones aren't for me.Be a label reader- watch fats, sugars, and sugar alcohols- they are dumping culprits! I do know that you can dump if you aren't careful with the type of bars you get- I asked about the Snickers bar- and was told ~NO!! Too much sugar - I don't want to offend anyone, but they aren't approved by the St.V's dieticians. I have tried several kinds that have made me very ill, diarrea, sweats, flushing, flu like feelings- not fun!!!! Sounds like the ones you got are in line with whats allowed. If in doubt, leave it out, and always check with your Dietician.  wishing you continued success, ((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))) Ellen

Fortunately I have not experienced the "dumping" that some people have. Guess banders don't do it or I am damn lucky!c  I found out about the snickers protein bars from a gal on the Kentucky board. They are actually good...but I only have a half one a day and that is my "treat". I like to have a yogurt in the am..around 6 and then the treat around 10...then lunch about 1 or 2. They are yummy and taste like you are having a huge no no!  I have found them at Wal-mart (with the other protein bars, mixes, drinks, etc....) and also at Rite Aid. I know Kroger carries them as well as JayC. If they do not have them in stock...ask them to order them in for you.  I got a single one at Wal-mart and tried it before I bought the box. They also seem to be a bit bigger than other bars...hence the reason I only eat half! 20 grams of protein per bar as well.....but other stuff may cause you problems. Check those labels! If you cannot find them...let me know and I will send ya one to try! I am in the directory...just email me!...

I have a snickers one that is low carb, it is called Marathon Low Carb Lifestyle Energy Bar. I got it at Wal-mart and I think this is the one I got in the food section near the popcorn. It has 170 cal but it does have 8 gram of fat but has only 1 gram sugar but 19 sugar alcohols and it has 15 gram protein in each bar along with 19 carbs. Usually my DH and I split one on days we are out an about when we feel like we need something to eat. The one I have is Chocolate Fudge Brownie and it isn't real bad. I do have other ones that are on the list of protein bars but looking at those labels and the label on this one they are real similar.
