Hi everybody! I am new to the board and am wondering if anyone from Indy area has had the sleeve gastrectomy.  I was just talking to a friend on the phone regarding this procedure and have done a little research on this, and am wondering what other peoples experiences have been. I am currently on a 6mo. supervised diet, and then hopefully will be approved by insurance.  Everything else seems to be in place. Does anyone have any advice on the sleeve? Thanks, Laura

I LOVE IT!!!! I am not quite 4 months out from my sleeve and have lost a lil over 100lbs!!! I treat mine like RNY....i go by the exact diet....dr. gomez really restricted me...so i am only eating maybe 1 1/2 ounces at a time...never hungry so you have to watch that....have to remember to eat and drink....never a stomach growl....never miss food....but there are so many (WLS)sugar free low fat and no fat recipes on this board that you never miss "good foods"....this is a decipline surgery...well they all are....BUT you can still consume sweets....milk shakes and things like that with no dumping....i never try to think like that....would set me up for failure...although its great that i am not a sweet eater before surgery....this is a way to cut back on intake....its less complicated surgery...so it was ideal for me....i was 408 at my heaviest....and with such a fat stomach doc and i discussed this was the best method....this has been known to be the 1st part of the ryn on heavier patients....do the sleeve then go back after health risks are lower and preform the RNY(although i had no clue i was gomez's 1st sleeve...LOL)....i think this is all i need....i am soaring with it...but you have to be strong willed because you can eat mostly anything....thats why i follow gastric bypass diet....althou i do have a bit of a weaker stomach when it comes to eggs and milk products....good luck on your journey....the grass is greener on the other side....well has been for me so far....don't get me wrong i had complications....but i would not trade it for anything big hugs...
