I hope to have the lap RNY done and I am curious how much time you took off from work? I am an RN but have a desk job that requires phone and computer work. I know everyone is different but I want to take the least amount of time off as possible. Thanks for responding!! Michele

i have essentially a desk job. i'm keeping the bending and twisting and lifting to nill. i started back to work today at 2 weeks post op. i haven't had any complications though. you might want to factor that in just in case you do. i'd suggest 3 weeks to be safe.

I am a telemetry tech and work 12 hour (night) shifts. I went back to work 9 days post op. I was a little tired at first, but I also think it made me get up a get going more and got feeling better faster too. No time to get lazy. Good luck to you.

I am a social worker and had my WLS 2 weeks ago and I'm going back tomorrow. They advised me that it would take 3-6 weeks so I would take that into consideration when asking for time from work.

I have a desk job, and was at work within two weeks. It was actually about 10 days. My first week back, I did half days. I didn't have the stamina to work a whole day. The second week back I could.

I took 2 weeks off following surgery as well.  I am a nurse also though I have a desk job in clinical research.  You really do need the 2 weeks.  Not just for the physical recovery but you need that much time to become accustom to the new way of life.  The first week you will be consumed with just drinking.  You have to sip, sip constantly to try to get your fluids in.  I had trouble getting them all in and ended up having to do an ER visit for IV fluids.  I really do believe you need that 2 weeks just to get used to your new way of life and eating and of course you will need to be walking on a regular basis.  Good luck on your new life!
