Hi everyone,  I am just over three weeks out, from a lap RNY. I'm not sure if all surgeons cut the same, but mine ( Dr. Huse ) put six small insisions on me. ( 1@ top, 2 on each side, and 1 @ belly button near the top inside ). From my understanding the one at my belly button is where most of the tooling was done. This makes since because that one had the most brusing. All of the cuts have healed well except the one at my belly button. It's hard to see, but it seems to still be leaking slightly. There is no redness or discolored discharged, but just seems to be clear moisture. The other thing, is I feel a lump about the size of a marble inside at my belly button insision. Is this normal ???  Could this just be healing, scaring or could it be the start of a hernia???. I feel great and have had no complications thus far. I'm finally doing well with my protein and fluid requirements. Does anyone have some explanations ???  Thanks in advance for all the support,  Dave

Hi there,  I had leaking form the bellybutton, too. I also had 6 incisions, and worried something was wrong. The Dr. told me it was just excess fluid coming other, and to keep it clean & dry, as best you can. i just kept a gauze bandage on it with paper tape for a few days & it stopped. If you do have pain, redness, or anything but clear liquid-call your Dr. The lump could be any number of things- even a fat glob that has broken loose- I know I had some-yuck.  I am so glad you are doing well with the protien & fluids!!!!The first few weeks are the roughest, but after that it becomes so much easier. Keep on keeping on Dave, and you'll be/do ok!!! ((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))) Ellen

Dave, I didn't have lap RNY, I had open. I did have a lap gall bladder surgery about 15 years ago. I too had an opening by my navel just like you explained. I still have like a knot type lump there. I think it is like a scar tissue or something. If you are concerned I would call the doctor's office and see what they say. Good luck on your new and wonderful life. It is a most wonderful experience.

Hello Dave,

I had lap RNY 3 weeks ago today. I, too, had 6 incisions. I did not have any drainage from any of them, but the bigger one on the lower left side still has a knot. At first it was about the size of the softball but has shrunk to about the size of a golf ball now. Even the smaller incisions have little knots, too. I hope it is just part of the healing process. Most hernias are what they call reducible. That means if you push on it, it will disappear. Have  you had your 3 week check up with the surgeon yet? Don't be afraid to ask about it. I am having trouble with my fluid and protein. I think that is why I am tired a lot. I am still nauseous quite a bit and am having trouble finding protein rich foods that I like. I found that if I freeze my protein shakes, that I like them a lot better. Hope everything turns out alright for you.
