I just talked to Lucy.  Dr. Inman had to repair 3 hernias with the DS.  Lucy said her incision is the biggest one Dr. Inman has ever done.  She is in alot of pain, wants a shower, is not moving around very well and has had nothing to eat but ice chips since her surgery.  She says even the ice chips come up.  Evidently the hernias were very bad, colon spilling out of her abdomen bad.   She feels terrible but she has a positive atttitude, she thinks that if she can make it through the next couple of weeks she will feel better than she has in years.  Let's help Lucy and send her some love, prayers, chickens, lizards and anything else you wanna send up Indy way.
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

I don't know about chickens or lizards, but I do have a couple of bearded dragons I can send Lucy's way!  I don't know how they'll help her right now, though, they just sorta sit there for awhile, then look for something warm to sit on. Thank you for the update on Lucy, and good luck on your own DS next week!

Thank you for the update on Lucy. Given my recent hernia surgery (March 3rd), I can definately relate to what she is going through. I looked like I was ~8 month pregnant. The incision was from right below my sternum to my pubic area and then ~6" across. The worse time pain-wise was that first night after surgery...and trying to get the pain under control. Until I was put on the oxycodone a week later, I was in pain the majority of the time. For me, it wasn't the incision line that hurt. It was where they sewed the mesh to the stomach muscles to close up the opening (which is what a hernia is..the opening which allows the insides to not stay where they are suppose to..for me, it was my intestines). After about 3 weeks, it was to where I could start spreading out the doses a little bit at at time instead of watching the clock. I'm now ~6 weeks post-op. Thursday was the first day I made it through the day with just Tylenol. I am still having to do vicodin when I go to bed & when I first wake up in the morning...but at least it is ONE...and they are 6-8 hours apart. I'm glad Lucy has a positive attitude. That goes a VERY long way in the healing process! Please tell her that we're thinking about her.    Sherri

it might do Lucy some good to talk to you.  You have been through what she is dealing with right now.  If you are interested please PM me and I will send you her last name and room # so you can either call her or visit her.  Thanks for your insight whatever you decide, she really does hurt right now.

Please let Lucy know we are holding her up in our prayers. I don't have any pets, other than my 3 koi fish out in my pond, but I am sending her angels Angel Glitter Text  to watch over her.  Best wishes on your upcoming surgery. The wait is worth it- even the post-opt pain and all. Once you are over the 6 week "hump' life is so much better, healthier, and sweeter. (((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))) Ellen
