Has anyone heard why Citracal Creamy bites been discontinued.  I were ordering them from drugstore.com and I have checked at  Walmart and no one seems to want to tell me why they no longer carry this product.  I just called Citracal and all they would tell me is they have been discontinue.  I loved the lemon ones and my supply is almost gone, I have trouble taking anything else.

Yep!  They are history and it STINKS!!!  have been using Health Valley SF chocolate chews.  They are calcium carbonate, but, hey,  at least it's calcium.  I pop a few throughout the day.  They taste like Tootsie Rolls and are much better than Viactiv.   Bariatric patients used calcium carbonate products for years and had acceptable labs.  I know calcium citrate is now preferred.  I cannot stand the other chews on the market.

I'm with you on saying "hey, it's calcium".  I take the Kirkland Sugar Free Calcium Chocolate Chews.  Way better than those nasty Calcium Citrate wafers.  I guess we don't process the Carbonate as well as the Citrate.  But that is also dependent on most RNY patients becoming lactose intolerant.  I am not (so far) and get in a lot of dairy, so I'm not worried about it.  :-)

Hi everyone.  You may want to be careful relying on the calcium carbonate products.  According to a study I read about you only absorb about 4% of the calcium carbonate, but you absorb 45% of the calcium citrate (11 times as much!).  In addition, RNY patients can't count on the dairy products in their diet.  It isn't called a malabsorbtive procedure for nothing!  We don't absorb all of what we take in.  And when it comes to calcium, by the time you realize you aren't getting enough it is too late!  My family has a strong history of osteoporosis, but none of them found out about it until they were very far gone.     www.globalhealthproducts.com offers a powdered calcium citrate product that can be added to liquids or food that works very well.  Ruthanne at Clarian got some samples for her patients to try and I love it.  It is an easy substitute for the creamy bites.  I just add it to my coffee, water or pour it directly on something I'm eating.   Hope this helps some of you.
