Should I sign up for Aetna?

I just accepted a job today and found out it has Aetna.  Right now, I am going through the process of trying to get BCBS Illinois to approve me and I can tell already that it is going to not be fun.  Does anyone have any feedback about Aetna and should I even mess with picking it up, or just stick with my husband's BCBS IL ?  By the way, this is my first post, HI EVERYONE!!

I dont know anything about either one of them.  But if it were me in your shoes. I would probably check with the Aetna insurance and see if they cover WLS.  Do you know that your husbands covers it?  I would just check into both of them and wait and see what hubby's insurance does.  But that is my own opinion.

Hi Mandy, I have Aetna Open Choice PPO II. For me they cover the surgery but you have to have certain requirements. Either a BMI over 40 or 35 with comords for at least 2 years. 6 month supervised diet by the doctor or a 3 month multidisciplinary (this is what Im doing) I know they are a stickler for details but from what Ive heard as long as you have everything in place, they are pretty good at approving. If you need any other help with Aetna I will try my best. Welcome and good luck!  ~Becky

Thanks for the info, I think I have everything in order for BCBSIL and it sounds like that will qualify me for Aetna as well.  I will probably go ahead and get the Aetna and keep my husband's as well.  At least then I will have that much more of a chance!!  Thanks!

I was on Aetna when I had my RNY.  It went smoothly, but they were stringent about the requirements.  I had mine in 06.  I had to do the following:   1--Prove that I was 18.   2--Have a BMI of 40 w/o comorbidiites or a BMI of 35 w/comorbidities.   3--Prove that I was obese for 5 years.   4--Have 6 months of Dr. supervised weightloss.   5--Psych evaluation.   I can't see that they would have changed much in the past 18 months.   I have BCBSIL now.  Just started in April.  I have no idea what the criteria is for bariatric surgery.
