I want to thank everyone for the good luck wishes and good vibes for me today! The weather was PERFECT!! I finished the 13.1 miles in 3 hours and 30 mins, averaging 16min/mile. I was SOOO happy to finish and accomplish this goal I put for myself. I'm sore, but i think i'll survive....we'll see how I do tomorrow! Thanks everyone again!!!

Congratulations!!!! You have worked very hard to attain this goal. Relax and savor the moment. I too have a goal of participating in the mini next year. I have been doing some competitive 5K's this year and have been striving to get under a 15 min mile for that short distance. It has been fairly easy to do by going to the gym every day and walking on my lunch hours to gain muscle mass. I am definately going to do the 5K at the mini festival next year but would really like to do the mini itself. Do you have any pointers that would help with this venture. At the present I can only jog/run short distances before I break stride and do a fast walk.

Awesome job for the 5ks! i did a 5k in november, i think it was maybe 53 min. I joined a training team here in terre haute and they had training sessions tuesday nights and saturday mornings. because of my work schedule, I could never make it though! they have a training manual that gives you a week by week training schedule to get yourself up to the 13 miles (and a few weeks before the mini too). I admit, i slacked off, so the most before the mini distance i did was 8 miles. i just walked as exercise and at the mini tried to keep a 17 min mile. in miles 9-11 i was beat! i did slow down a lil but at mile 12 and 13 i was sooo excited to almost be done and got a huge burst of energy and even jogged a little! i even passed some people that had been ahead of me! my adrenaline burst really helped!!! i want to jog more for next year, so i need to be more disciplined!!! let me know if you'd like me to get any of the training info to ya! maybe we can go to some 5ks together! i want to keep the momentum going!!!

Congratulations Amanda.  I just registed for a 5k for next Saturday.  Unfortunately I haven't been running in a long time, so it won't be as easy as last year.  I'm not sure I could ever do the mini tho.  You're awesome, girl. Floyd
