So glad to be home.  I missed my kids terribly.  Jacque's visit was the highlight of my day.  I cannot tell you how much it meant.  Thanks to everyone else for your thoughts and prayers.  It means so much  to know I have each of you supporting me.  I do have a couple of qusestions.  After Jacque left I took a shower, and peeled off the nausea sticker behind my ear.  They didn't tell me I needed to keep it on for 3 days.  So, needles to say my day went down hill from there.  I had so much pain medication that day flew by.  My nurse on Sunday asked if I still had it, and after she put a new one on I started feeling a little better. So, here are my questions: My eyesight seems funny....very blurry.  Anyone else experience this?  How long does it last? I cannot eat any sweet.  I can eat oatmeal, but the texture is funny, and  believe me with a dry mouth everyone gets to see my oatmeal.  yuk.  So, what have you all done for those that cannot tolerate sweets?  So I will be starting protein. and so I nned some non sweet ideas for that.too Thanks so much and best wishes, Kim.

I am glad to see you are home!

I know somebody had mentioned about a non tasting protein to put in your food or drinks. I have not tried it yet but she told me I could get it at GNC.

Its normal for your taste buds to act strange. I am able to tolerate one isopure and that is the alpine something. The First week I couldn't even take water because I didn't like the taste. This week it seems fine.

So test taste away!

Remember to sip sip sip. Keep a journal so you know where you are in regards to protein and water!

Welcome to the bench

Glad you are home!  You are well on your way to a healthier lifestyle. What are you trying to eat or drink that is sweet?  Is it just anything in general that has a sweet taste whether its made with splenda or not?

Kim, I am so glad that your home and things are going up from there. Things do continue to get better I promise.  When I was on pureed foods I use to take refried beans and blend them up and then put some cheese on the top of it and heat it up in the microwave for a couple of seconds. I use to take the canned soup that is high in protein too and add just a bit of water to it and puree it. It was kind of thick but not to thick and it felt like I was having honest to God food. lol  These are suggestions for when you get to pureed diet which will be a bit of time for you but the time is going to be here before you know it. You might be able to do it now since you had oatmeal. I couldn't have that for a couple of weeks. All doctors are different so it depends on yours.  Sendingyou love and hugs for a speedy and good recovery!!!!

Your taste buds are probably just out of whack.  I would try eating cottage cheese, refried beans with some melted cheese, instant mashed potatoes, etc.  Stuff that isnt so sweet.  Then maybe next week try some of the jello or pudding.   Different things I ate tasted a lot more sweeter then before.  But I am ok with that stuff now. My taste buds are back to normal.  It is just trial and error right now. It will get better for you though.

Kim, Congrats on being a loser!                              When I was a newbie, I mixed up St. V's mix (powder milk & skim milk) and added some SF jello mix to it for flavoring. I stuck to lemon or lime flavors because the rest were too sweet. If you mix it up in a blender, just be sure to let it settle very well so you won't be putting those tiny air pockets in your pouch.                     For food..I would add a little bit of skim milk to the oatmeal to make it a little better on the tastebuds. I was allowed instant mashed potatoes and creamed soups. I would use 1 oz of soup on top of the potatoes like it was gravy. It did a good job of moistening the potatoes.                                              Best of luck!  Sherri
