I called my nutritionist yesterday with a question and she told me it was a good question but she didnt know the answer to it so I'm throwing it out here.

I am 16 months out I really enjoy kashi granola for a breakfast treat once in a while. I wanted to try some of their protein bars but they list and ingredient of BROWN RICE SYRUP, or brown rice crystals

they only have 9g of sugar but have dried fruit in them so i dont know if the sugar count is from the fruit or what.

also is brown rice syrup or brown rice crystal a sugar or what?

thanks to anyone who can help

Sounds like something we should not have if it is not suitable for diabetics then probably not good for us either.

It is a form of sugar.  I've heard various recommendations from nutritionists:  Less than 10 grams of sugar in any meal; If sugar is in the first 3 ingredients don't eat it, etc.  I would be careful.  You DO NOT want dumping syndrome.  Trust me on this.  If you really want to try it, don't eat a full serving, just eat a bite or two the first time.  If you handle that ok, then work up the amount gradually and stop when you are satisfied with the amount.  There is no rule that you have to eat a full serving of anything, especially if it contains sugars.
