I know I wil get these answered at my pre op class but I just love you guys so much and enjoying hearing the various answers, etc. 1) Do they measure you the day of your surgery or should I do that ahead of time?

2) How long before you can lift things, when how much etc? Part B of that is ...When could you start working out beyond just walking? Bike, stair stepper, etc? 3) I know I have heard people say no straws, why? I am sure I will have more.  Thanks for letting m bother you!!!!! Thanks!!!! Kim

I do not remember them measuring me the day of my surgery. I would measure yourself.  I think they measured me at my initial consultation. I was allowed to lift anything over the weight of 2 gallons of milk for 6 weeks.  After 6 weeks I no restrictions.  I could not work out either until after 6 weeks. All I could do was walk. No straws because they cause you to take in excess air. Causing gas build up and gas pains. Hope this helps!

Helps a ton, the no working out thing might drive me batty! Not that I am great at it, its just a great way to get stress out. How about fast fast walking/running?  I like my cardio

I am not totally sure on the fast walking. You will have a 1 wk post op visit. I would just ask your surgeon then about that.  I would say that fast walking would be fine, probably not jogging though.

I measured myself the day before surgery, and will do so again on each month's anniversary date.  Lifting, we were told nothing over 10 lbs for 3 weeks.  Dr E found a hernia when he did my surgery, so I won't be lifting my 40 & 50 lb kids for even longer, just to be safe.    Working out, I was told by Dr E that I could ride my bike as soon as I felt up to i****er aerobics after 3 weeks, and walking right away, nothing else until he sees me on the 29th, 5 weeks post op.  I returned to the Y on Monday, 12 days post op, and was able to do my pre op distance and pace, so I'm getting my cardio in! This week I'm doing 4 miles each day, two in the morning and two in the afternoon.  As soon as I get the all clear from him, I'm signing up with a personal trainer at the Y to develop a weights program, and figure out the other cardio equipment, plu**** some step classes!
