I need help
I have been trying different proteins, and haven't been able to find one that will work. So, I have resorted to the 6-12oz glasses of milk.
I need some help with some protein ideas that don't have an after taste or very little after taste. I have been sampling different ideas for almost a week now with no luck, and I don't know if I can tolerate the milk (72oz) much longer.
Thanks,
Kim
Kim,
It can be very hard finding a protein drink that works for you. Some people stick to just milk the entire time. You can switch off of that some by eating string cheese, cottage cheese, or any other low-fat/fat-free protein. When I was having such a hard time finding my drink of choice, I ate ALOT of string cheese & fish. Fish is high in protein but be careful of which you choose because some fish are also very high in fat. Free websites like SparkPeople.com can help you figure out the best choices.
If you find yourself here in Indy, I have some Miscelular Milk that you are welcome to taste test. It really isn't my thing so I have 8 four-packs of it. I have a sample pack of a powder that you can try out too. Once you are further out (at LEAST 6 months), you might want to try AchievOne. I wouldn't recommend it before then because it does contain a little bit of caffiene and caffiene can DEFINATELY cause ulcers when you aren't very far post-op. Sometime, maybe we all should just get together and have a protein tasting party! LOL!
I found that the best thing for me was RTD's...Ready To Drink. If they are powders, they get chunky or grainy so the texture just doesn't work for me. Some of the RTD's get gunk on the bottom..and again, texture-wise, yuck for me. I can't handle the thought of the jells sliding down my throat...uh..sorry, that is gag for me to even think about! Now..I've had going on 4 years to figure out what works and what doesn't work for me. It's going to take you some time too. Just be patient with yourself...and BUY SMALL. I have found that when I try new ones the best thing for me to do is get vanilla flavor. The chocolates/strawberry/banana/etc is just way too sweet for me when they come that way. With the vanilla, I can add Nestle's sugar-free chocolate mix or Hershey's sugar-free liquid chocolate, or one of Divinci's liquid flavoring. I've also added a little bit of cold decaf coffee & some sf chocolate to get a mocha which wasn't too bad..for a short while anyway. The biggie is being willing to experiment. Good luck!

Misty...GNC doesn't carry them. There is one store here in Indy that does but he wants ~$38/case of 12. I usually got mine at BariatricEating.com but I just discovered ibariatric.com. Their prices are the best I've found so far! they will give a special rate if you order more than 5 cases at a time (I always get 12). I am inquiring about getting 100 cases sent to us at a special rate. I'll let you know more about that after I get more information on it. They are also checking into FreeShipping.com for me. I know that many people consider their protein drink as a 'have to'. For me, I really enjoy the AchievOne's! If I was told that I didn't ever have to drnk another protein drink again, I would continue to get these! I like the taste that much!

Aah. They said in support group some GNCs do carry them. Either way I'll do some looking round. One of the ladies orders them from the company itself because she runs a fitness shop and they sell them there. She said she could get me a case for 36 dollars. :) I'm thinking I may give her a call around the time for the next support group meeting or something. Of course I have to talk it over with Rich first.
You may want to check at ibariatric.com. Even with S&H, I think they can probably beat $36/case. I had checked with the manufacturer, and it was going to cost ~$40/case to get direct from them. You didn't have any ulcer problems, did you? That was the 'Missy' instead..right? I ask because there is a little bit of caffiene in them. As per Skylar Harley (the manufacturer), it's about the equivilant of 1/2 cup of coffee. Since caffiene can cause ulcers, I don't usually recommend anyone under 6 months post-op or those with a history of ulcers to try it. Be sure you do drink extra water if/when you do start drinking it to counter the caffiene effect. Sherri

This will get easier the further out you get. But here is what I like and drink everyday!!!!!
EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control Cafe Caramel or Chocolate Fudge....you can get these at WalMart, GNC, Kroger(good sales there), and Vitamin Shoppe.
It took me 10 months to find something I liked and tolerated!!!! Hang in there and it will come!!!!!
