I WILL BE GETTING MY JULY SURGERY DATE TOMORROW, AND THE OFFICE ASSISTANT TOLD ME THAT MID JUNE I WOULD BEGIN PRE OP TESTS SUCH AS: LABS BREATHING TEST EKG STOMACH ULTRASOUND PULMONARY (SOMETHING) PHYSICAL/CLEARANCE ALL DAY NUTRITION CLASS... IS THIS PRETTY ROUTINE STUFF????

I had my NUT class on 5/8/08 and my pre-op testing is 5/19/08.  My surgeon is Dr Evanson.  My pre-op testing has blood work, pulmonary function test, upper GI, EKG, ultrasound and not sure what else.  Sounds like this is pretty standard.    Good Luck with everything. jacque

yep, all very standard!! I went by myself for all my labwork, and it's done within the 30 days before your surgery date.  I was there for about 3 hours maybe? It wasn't an all day thing. My dad had Dr K, and really liked him! His surgery was Aug 2006.  I had Dr Evanson, and he was great too!  Good luck with everything!

You've got all the tests I had.  They are the same tests everyone I've talked to have had.  They set you up for about three hours by the schedule.  I was finished in about an hour hour and a half.

Would have had to have an Upper GI but I had already had a scope which Dr C accepted the results from... I knew I was deciding on the surgery so I told the guy to write a great report so I wouldnt have to have the Upper GI.. and there is a little test to see if you have this germ in your stomach.. You drink 2 ounces of this stuff then later breath into something and it tells if you have this germ.. Tests dont take long and are worth it because they tell you if you are healthy enough for the surgery... and If I can remember right they really helped one person find a problem she didnt know she had that had to be solved before the surgery...Linda Kay... and Best of LUCK with the surgery..It is the first day of the BEST of your life!!

Don't be nervous.  It's fairly painless.
