re-introducing myself

Hi! I have been a member for a year and have been reading a lot of the posts. My husband switched jobs so I had to stop temporarily on this journey. He started a new job and we found out that they cover the surgery. I am so excited. I now know my time will eventually come. I have been married for almost 9 years and have four children between the ages of 1 and 7. I have been so focused on raising them that I have let myself go. I now realize that in order to be there for them in the long run I need to take care of myself.  I know I have a while until I actually have the surgery or even start the process. Our insurance won't start until towards the end of this year. But I look forward to being an active part of the board and getting to know all of you. Has anyone used Dr. Sloan or had their surgery at Lutheran Hospital? I am from Fort Wayne and would like to stay close to home. He doesn't have as many surgeries under his belt as some of the Dr's from St. V, but his reputation seems good.  Holly

Hi Holly, Welcome again.  Taking care of yourself is most important.  My babies are almost grown.  We have two children,   Our son is 21 and in OK working at this time.  Our daughter is 18 and about to graduate from high school and plans to attend college.  My children are older, but I still want to be here.  Someday they may both have children, my grandchildren.  I think the most important requirement for your surgeon is that he/she can do the surgery.  It is also important that you trust him/her.  You must have complete trust and confidence in your surgeon.  Carol

I have 2 grandsons, 1 and half and 6 and 3, 4 year old granddaughters.. worth every ounce of energy I now have!! Take the time while you are waiting for insurance to kick in to learn to eat.. do the support groups get documentation of all the diets you have tried and failed.. get as much in writing as you can so when you are ready it wont take long to be approved!! Welcome and Good Luck on your journey.  Take this time to prepare yourself as much as you can mentally and physically for a "rollercoaster ride".  Go to support groups, ask questions and research.  Research the surgery, the surgeon, the hospital, everything.  Educate yourself and your family.

Hi I am from Columbia City.  I checked into Dr. Sloan when I was first looking at my surgery.  I felt a little uncomfortable with their office.  I went to Dr. Murphy in Goshen and had my surgery at Goshen Hospital.  It is about 45 minutes for me but well worth it.  I love them.  They are great.  She was so caring and understanding the fear I had etc.  She is with Team Bariatrics in Goshen.  I would be glad to give you her number if you are interested.  There is another person on here from Columbia City that had her surgery with Dr. Murphy also.  I am now at the step of working for the plastics.  I am seeing Dr. Stephens at Summit there in Ft. Wayne.  Ok with him for my tummy tuck but for my arms and breast lift I don't feel comfortable so I will have my family doctor refer me to another surgeon when that time comes.  Good luck in your journey.
