My plastic surgery was approved by insurance but now I'm starting to wonder if I should do it.
I got the call from the surgeon's office saying it was approved and wanting to set it up. I really want to have it done but now I'm starting to think the doctor I'm going to isn't very good or something.
I asked on here and could only find one person who's gone to this surgeon. And when I asked for references from their office I was given only one name and number and was told that's all they were giving me.
Another surgery scares me some anyway but this on top of it is making me panic to the point I'm thinking of backing out of doing it at all. I don't want to do that.
So does this sound fishy to anyone else? Only one person I can find with firsthand experience and they will only give me the contact info for one person?
Have you called that reference? I would call them and see what they have to say. Also, talk to the person on here that had that surgeon and see what they have to say (if you havent already)
I would say since you have been approved, chances are you would get approved with another surgeon. You might try the surgeon Sherri went to. She speaks very highly of that surgeon. Good luck in whatever you decide.
Dawn,
I would definately suspect not getting many references. What surgeon is it? For plastics, if your insurance approved them, I'm sure they would approve a different one. I had heard wonderful things about Dr. Bergman & Dr. Grasse (you can get ALOT of feedback from the folks on here about these two ladies!). When I made my appointment , they were partners with Dr. Turkle. By the time my appointment rolled around, they had branched away from her. I went ahead and kept the appointment though so I had a consult with Dr. Turkle initially. I really didn't care for her at all..she also would not even try to get my insurance to pay for any of it. It just was not a good match between her & I. So...I made an appointment with Dr. Bergman, loved her, and had no problem putting my faith in her & her talents. Her office also got my insurance to pay for my entire consult fees and for the TT portion of my surgery. You also get a discount if you have more than one procedure done at the same time. Yes..I had complications but none of them were directly due to the plastics. Dr. Bergman has been very caring and right there the whole way! She had even come to see me when I was in ICU after my coma...the family doctor I had at the time never showed up a single time...and her office was right there in the hospital! Dr. B also assisted with the hernia surgery so she could remove the horrible scarring I had from everything.
So..I guess my advise would be not to give up the surgery, just the surgeon.

Dawn,
I would bet that person was Dawn Smith. Dawn was very happy with Dr. Grasse. For myself, the weekend after I had my plastics I was hospitilized for pnumonia. Dr. Grasse was the partner on call that weekend so came and saw me at the hospital. I was just as comfortable with her as I was Dr. Bergman. Back when I was checking into plastics initially, you could check on surgeons on OH..I don't know if that capability is still here or not. That was how I learned about Dr. Bergman & Dr. Grasse. There were excellent reviews on both of them. If I find that URL. I'll post it on here.
