Ok, so it has been 2 yrs. since DH retired, and we have been without any Ins. for Dental care, or eyecare. Today I went to AllCare Dental- and WOW~!!!!! did I get a shock. I have 9 cavaties, need 2 teeth pulled (one I had a crown & root canal on yrs. ago, & it is all infected with one of the roots still in it- what?! )lso,I have to have a bridge on the bottom and new partial- all to the tune of~~~~~~~~$3535.00!!!!! There goes my PS!!!! I need my teeth taken care of right now, and PS can wait, alteast I can get my teeth taken care of and not be in pain. I am  going on meds for 10 days. The side effect of the meds- DIARREA!!!!! With my IBS I sure don't need that! So friends, say a prayer for me that I don't have the side effects and that this will go smoothly- I am a whimp when it comes to having my teeth pulled. Luckly DH will go with me to drive me home. In 6 months I should have a beautiful smile- Thumbs Upthat is my Birthday/Christmas/Surgerversary gift to me from me- & deserve it! I have hated my teeth for so long 'cause they are soooo discolored.I'll be all bright and shiney day soon- woopie!!! Just wanted to share my "pain & JOY" with you all. ((((((((((((big hugs)))))))))))) Ellen

Ellen: I feel your pain!  I would rather go to the GYN than to the dentist.  I've never had good teeth and the dentist isn't my favorite person either.   Previous to WLS, I had IBS.  Thank GOD above, that I haven't had it since.  I used to take a medicine for it and haven't had to take it since surgery either.   IBS runs (no pun intended) in our family unfortunately.  My insides still does some twists and turns on certain types of foods and drinks.  I feel for you.   I hope the dentist goes easy on you!   Look forward to having your teeth fixed and have the white smile!   Remember....you're worth it!!!!

P.S.  The geraniums are just beautiful!!!!!!!

Hey Ellen I feel your pain or at least I did about 2 years ago when I had to have 1 tooth pulled and had a double root canal with crowns! Talk about expensive and that was with the insurance!  I wish you the best of luck but I always like your smile! Michelle

My husband recently lost all his teeth due to gum disease, it was a devestating experience for him.  We had to get a medical credit card and we have insurance.  My husband had never had a cavity even when they pulled his teeth there was no decay. I have always had fairly bad teeth, I have numerous crowns and a partial.  I need two more crowns sometime during this year.  This is a concern for me so I am glad you mentioned your teeth.  Might I expect my teeth to be worse after wls??  Jeannie

Ellen, I feel for you for sure. I am terrified of the dentist also. I had to have my first and only tooth pulled a few years ago and I was a mess. The tooth came out in pieces since I waited until I couldn't wait anymore. When I go to the dentist (which is only when needed~bad me!) I have to take a tranqullizer before I go since I get so worked up. I pray that things work out the way that you are wanting. You sure don't need the side effects of the antibiotic. I love seeing your smile so it is only going to go from beautiful to more beautiful. Sending you love and lots of hugs, sweetie.

Ellen, Wow..it sounds like AllCare actually gave you a very good price estimate to get all of that work done. When I just had my stuff done..1 root canal w/ crown, 2 fillings...my 'share' cost over $1,000. Insurance paid 80% (I had went in for 1 filling!). Dental health is so important. I have a mouthful of bridges (4) and crowns (?????). Whenever I go to a new dentist the first thing they comment is 'wow...you've had alot of work done'. I've spent enough for 10 sets of dentures I think just to try to save 'mine'. With that, I've had those elusive roots to get infected too after having had root canals. If I remember it right, a 'normal' person has 3 roots per tooth. Some of mine ended up having 5. It makes me have a little bit of anxiety when a young pup fresh out of dental school (like the one I have now..the one who did this last root canal) works on me. They do a root canal and I can literally hear them counting...one...two...three. Unfortunately, the extra one or two root can appear to just be a shadow so it isn't realized that it is a root..until it gets infected! More than one of my crowns/bridges also have a filling due to those sneaky burgers. I know you're disappointed about having to spend the $ on your mouth instead of your 'apron' but to not get it done will make you feel much worse physically..health-wise...than hanging onto the extra skin will. Maybe you can start saving up for it again with you working now....?   Love you sis...I hope your mouth begins to feel better soon! Sherri
