To anyone out there,      I am a morbidly obese woman who is tring to find out information on gastric bypass.  I have contacted my husbands insurance company and they will not cover any surgeries NO EXCEPTIONS!  Because of our credit there is no way i can apply for a loan or financing.  My question i guess is then how do i go about getting a bypass done at this point with no financial help.  I want to be here to see my girls do all they are supposed to do in this lifetime and without this surgery i am affraid that i won't be.  I have tried everything and now i am asking for help.  If anyone has any ideas or suggestions or ideas please feel free to respond!                                                                       Thanks,  Jessica

I had to fight to get our insurance to pay but before that I was prepared to do it anyway and just go self pay.  I figured many people go  out and buy a car worth 20 -25,000 I figured my life was worth as much as a car.  There are attorneys out there that will fight to get your insurance to pay.  Or you could go to the hospital or surgery center where you are thinking about having the surgery and discuss payment plans with them.  Good luck.  The surgery has been so worth it for me.

i suggest contacting the patient financial services departments of different bariatric clinics to see what help they can offer. there are payment plans they can do, and they might be able to help you out as well depending on your income.

i also think you should shop around for insurance if you possibly can. i know every november i can chose between 10 or so different plans from my job. i know not every employer does this, but see if your husband's company offers more than 1 choice. you might also check into switching just yourself to your insurance if your employer has an insurance carrier that covers the surgery. it would be more expensive in the short run, but save you a lot in the long run. there are also independant insurance companies where you can get coverage, but i don't know if you would be accepted. my friend from college is a lawyer, and she can't get insurance because of her bmi. it doesn't hurt anyone to ask a lot of questions or make a couple of phone calls. hopefully, you can get steered in the right direction.

Hi ica I understand your plight! I tried for 7 years to get this RNY done. My husband worked for RCA in Indianapolis and we kept switching insurance so I could get it done. They always found some reason to turn me down. All I can say girl is don't give up and keep fighting! If you can change insurance companies! If not even though your credit is not so good do you have any equity in your home? If  so get that out some how even if you have to take out a home equity loan! You would take it for something else that would be less useful like new windows. SO use it for your life! Your worth it! and your girls are worth it!   You keep on the insurance with your doctors help and maybe they will change their tune! If nothing else try getting disability and medicare/medicaid will possibly pay for it. My cousin was all set to have it done and paid for by the state. She chickened out and now that I have had it done is thinking about it!   I am going to pray for you and maybe with God's help it will happen but don't give up! Michelle J.

thank you so much for your encouraging words and the ideas I am going to keep fighting as long as i have to.  this surgery to me is no longer something i just want,  i am sure that it is something i am going to need to live.  My children are the most important thing in my life and i am not giving up on them and so i am not giving up on me either!!!                                                                                             Thanks Jess
