Hello, I'm new here and I just done the bariatric consultation and I'll do the psychologicle evaluation in a few days. I have the new mdwise hip plan and I'm just wondering does anyone have any information about mdwise hip if they cover the bariatric surgery. I called the insurance company and they told me they could not talk to me about it the doctor has to be the one they talk to ??  So I'm just taking it one step at a time. Thanks!!  Robert Joe

RobertJoe, You need to pin the insurance down on what they cover! Your doctor is no longer in charge. The insurance companies are the ones who dictate what is covered and what is not. I tried to get this surgery along time ago and all they would tell me I need was 6 months doctor supervised weight loss and so he told me to go to weigh****cher because they had the most healthy diet plan. So here I go to the meetings and pay the fee and the insurance would not approve my surgery because Weigh****chers was not an approved plan! SO if you don't want to wait for 6 years to get your procedure done you need to pin them down on what to do. Good Luck! Michelle

Why can't they talk to you?  I have dealt with two different companies during this process.  Both companies talked to me.  I would call them back and insist on talking to a supervisor.  They are you your employee not the doctor's.  But do be very clear on exactly what they want you to do to be approved for your surgery.  Carol

I did call the insurance company back today and asked to talk to the superviser in charge and asked for for the reason the person I talked to could not give me the answers I wanted, and she said to me that she should have gave me more information on this matter. she also said that since this insurance is fairly new "5 months old" most of the operators are pretty much new to this. They do cover this and it depends on the patients condition and she asked for my email address and said when she gets more information on this she will email it to me.      ROBERT JOE
