Oh my goodness, what a mess thls has turned into. Leanne, no way did I think you did not like Dr. Gupta, or St. Vin. I got what you were saying that it was the nurse, who was not doing her job to make sure you were getting your information. I appreciate all you have written and I am sorry you feel like you are being attacked, I love that your honest and that for all of us that haven't had the surgery we can be sure and ask the right questions, and make sure our nurse is looking at our chart. I think by the time I have surgery I will know what to expect because of all of the people on here sharing. I will now know what to expect for lap band or rny. So THANK YOU, THANK YOU,  THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   You take care and please let me know how your doing, I think you are wonderful!!!  Tracey

I understand how you feel because we all want and deserve the best healthcare.  That is why we "elect" to have this surgery , for health reasons.  That is why we chose St. V's.  Because we thought it was the best.  The not knowing is what really gets me going on anything.  That is where my stress comes from.  I like to be prepared..........  I also like to be in control which is a whole other post.  .  Anyway,  this forum is for all  information.  I appreciate the post as those who have not yet had there procedure can ask these questions prior to going to or coming from the hospital.  Let those in charge at St. V's know.  It can only make someone elses surgery go smoother.  I have only the highest praise for the Bariatric Center as St. V's as well as the Dr's, nurses and other staff members.  That does not mean, however that they are perfect.  We all have room for improvement.

I spoke with the Clinical Care Coordinator for that Bar. Center and went through it all over again.  She was in disbelief about everything, especially of the no training on how to give a shot. She said BEFORE she called me back she spoke with a NUT at Dr. Gupta;s office about the lovenox and confirmed that lap band patients were NOT being sent home on the lovenox UNTIL NOW.  My class which was May 2nd was NOT informed of this nor did we get training on it, the video or anything. Thank you very much.  It has since changed and it included in the class and lao band patients will be sent home with it. She agreed that even though it wasn't in the class, the nurse did not check orders and did not properly train me on it and I never should have been sent home without something or some one showing me how to do it.  She was also shocked to find out the the calibration tubing was sent home with me as that has nothing to do with lap ban patients and her words were "yes it shows me who ever packed your bag of lovenox did not read your chart first"  Now that is reassuring isn't it! I also told her about my nurse not knowing my diet, and also not ONCE ever flushing my IV. Even affter giving me meds. or when my machine would beep (my IV was in a wierd place and kept getting stuck) She never flushed it out, yet the night nurse did every time it went off.  I do not know why, i am not a nurse but I felt she should know that, and evidentally it is important. She apologized for my experience and promised me that is not the way things normally go there, which I totally understand.  She is calling Dr. Gupta to find out what to put on my rash.  And said she is dropping me a little something in the mail as an apology. I am just glad it is all over.  I want to put this all behind me and just focus on what I want.... to lose weight!  Other than my itchy rash I am feeling great.  Haven't started my protein shakes yet though.... I am going to try one today.  I just hope my husband still goes through with it after my experience.

Leanne,  Please don't take our comments on here in an attack mode. Sweetie most of us on here have all been thru this and completely understand the concerns you are having. After my RNY I too had one nurse from hell and I don't think I was particularly nice to her either :o) LOL Being on the pain medication can make us rather unpleasant to be around at times :o)  But.... I was so happy to start my journey that I was determined to keep a happy face and look to my new future. :o) I am a firm believer that attitude is 90% of our success. I think many responded to your post as it came thru that you were really distressed and our intention was only meant to help calm you down and help you focus on the positive side of this procedure. Now that this is behind you, you will have the journey of your life as many wonderful wow moments await the new you. It only gets better from here on in.  Have a great day! ((((HUGS))))) Marianne
