Hi Angel  I could have instant potatoes but not real ones for a while. I hope this helps but maybe it goes by your doctor, I went St. V's in Carmel. I hope you are doing well.  Hugs,Love&Blessings, Gail

Hi Gail:      yep I went to St. V's in Carmel and my Dr. is Dr. Jones.I see her next Tuesday. No one had said anything to me yet about mashed potatoes (instant kind) so I was wondering if I could now or not.

Thanks Angel

Angel, I had my RNY ~3.5 yr ago with Dr. Gupta...one of Dr. Jone's partner's. Instant mashed potatoes were ok then. I would imagine they still are. They are a good source of carbs and you NEED some carbs (I was told a minimum of 100 g) to keep out of ketosis. Since you need to stay away from butter, gravy..you know, the stuff that makes taters taste good, try topping with some 2% shredded cheese or using a little bit of creamed soup as 'gravy'. When I was a newbie, I would pour 1 oz of cream of (what-ever) on top of 1 oz of instant potatoes. Just stay away from real potatoes. New pouches can digest them right.               Congrats on being on the losing side!  It'll all get easier...just have patience. Once the drain tube is out, you'll feel much better too.       Sherri

Hi Angel,  When I first saw the information on the "diet" mashed potatoes were on the list.  When I took my nutrition class the nurse said that the Dr.s had taken them off becaause they felt they were bad for us.  When I went to see the nutritionist, she told me to eat them.  I told her they weren't on the list and she said Dr. Gupta wouldn't mind!.  I had some  (instant) last night and they tasted very good!    Barb
