RNY and Motorcycles
Ok, I know...strange topic. Just wondering if there are any bikers out there. My husband is scheduled for RNY on July 2 and wondering when he will feel strong enough to get back on his bike. We both ride, mostly for our commutes to work and with gas prices the way they are he won't want to leave the Gold Wing in the driveway for too long.
Thanks for the quick answer and howdy neighbor! He is supposed to have lap, but you never know until you're in the OR. I know he will want to be back on the bike soon, but his Gold Wing is very heavy so I'm worried that he would tear something. He is going into this very cautiously. It already concerns both of us that St Vincent's only wants to keep him overnight. When I had mine two years ago I was scheduled to be in the hospital for three days, and ended up being there five. But I had mine in Fort Wayne. It's a whole different program!
Not strange at all. I'm surprised to hear that St. V. is only keeping him 1 night after a RNY. I've heard that lap band pts go home after 1 night . I had RNY in 06 and stayted two nights. I remember in pre-op class they said that 2-3 nights was standard. They said some that lived close may go home after 1 night but since I lived almost 3 hrs away I would be there atleast two nights. What surgeon does he have?
I had my surgery in April 3 years ago... so It wasn't warm enough to get right on the bike but if it is lap he should be able to get back on within a few weeks.. I know he wont be riding for the first 2 Even though we dont actually lift our bikes it is mostly balance.. there is some straining backing up and such we don't easily recall. Just comes naturally so being careful is a good thing... he could be the BI$*# on the back of y ours for a while heheh.
I have a 96 Heritage Softail Nostaligia..

Thanks for all the info. His surgeon is Dr Gupta. I WOULD take him as a passenger, but since I'm two years out and weigh 150 lbs now, our sizes just don't match. And I ride a Shadow Aero 750. We were on it once together (me on the back) to go pick up his Wing, but other than that my bike only carries me. We are looking forward to our sizes becoming a lot closer. There are "intimacy" issues we have since we don't match anymore.
I don't own a bike, but now that I have lost weight, I do want to ride one. Just a couple times tho, I am afraid that I might get hooked on them! LOL Hope your DH surgery goes well!
At Goal! 165 pounds gone forever! Thank you Lord!
