GOT A CALL ON WEDNESDAY FROM MY SURGEONS NURSE AND SHE TOLD ME MY A1C WAS 10.5 AND NEEDS TO BE 8 IN ORDER TO GET SURGERY...SHE TOLD ME TO GET WITH MY PCP AND AGRESSIVELY WORK AT IT..THEN ON JULY 1, THEY WILL RETEST IT...IF ITS NOT AT 8 THEY MIGHT HAVE TO POSTPONE..... I HAVE WORKED TOO HARD TO GET TO THIS POINT!!!!  ANY SUGGESTIONS?

The thing about a A1C is that shows how the blood sugar has been over a 3 month period. It is going to be hard to get it down so fast, since the other 2 months are going to be on it. The only thing that I can think of is to try a liquid diet for a couple of weeks. It is not only going to help defat the liver but that is when I got off insulin was when I did it for my surgery. It happened 1 week before surgery and the pump was gone and I have never looked back. I would try the liquids and make sure that you get the protein drinks in~and I was told at least 24 ounces of them a day. That is worth a try and I hope that it works. It just might. Let us know how things are going for you. I will keep you in my prayers and I am sending you love and BIG hugs too.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Without having low blood surgars it will be very hard to get that average down to 8.  Get with your PCP ASAP. They may be able to get you into diatician that can put you on a safe low glycemic diet. Good Luck.

If your sugars are averaging more than 140, you won't be able to get that A1C down ... plus as was already stated, it averages 3 months, so getting it that low in 2.5 weeks is a little unrealistic.  Perhaps Dr. Kaderabek would be willing to proceed if you showed that the past two weeks of sugars were averaging 140 or better??  It's worth a try.  But you must talk to your PCP or endocrinologist ASAP to increase lantus, perhaps add humalog during the day, for better sugar control.  Increasing exercise will also help.

I don't know if this will help in 2 weeks but, taking cinnamon capsule have really helped control my sugar.  I would say lots of low fat protein, exercise and no carbs... good luck

I don't know alot about all this, but would going on Insulin help get the sugars down? I guess shots would not be fun, but in the big picture might be worth it.
