I'm home...but what did I get myself into??

Surgery went well I guess, but it took forever for me to get the anesthesia out of my system.  I don't really remember much from Thursday except PAIN.  I am moving fine, but this surgery is much harder on me than any other surgery I've had and I'm just not bouncing back like I usually do.  And it doesn't help that I cannot stand the taste of the lortab and refuse to take it unless I am REALLY hurting.  I guess I'm lucky that they took my drain out before I came home.  (That was a strange experience I hope I never have to endure again!)  I guess I am doing well, but I have moments where I wonder what in the world did I just do to myself?  I know it will be worth it in the long run, but right now I'm trying to keep convincing myself of that.  Gotta go get some walking done...  chat more with you tomorrow, I hope.  Melissa

The first few weeks aren't real fun!  You must remember to walk and sip tha****er!  You can get dehydrated!   I couldn't take the loratab either.  But I didn't even try.  I had had another surgery a couple years before and had tried loratab and it didn't even phase my pain.  They gave me Demeral (sp?).  I really don't remember having any pain!   I don't remember the few days in the hospital AT ALL.  I have trouble with anesthesia.   You'll be okay!  Just follow the rules.  Sip and walk!

Melissa, I was lucky and my doctor gave me liquid tylenol with codene. I would make sure to call your doctor for something like that because you need to keep on top of your pain because if you don't it is going to be worse on you in the longrun. Hope this helps some. Make sure to give yourself a few more weeks and you will be back to loving and eperiencing life to the fullest. I know that I sometimes thought that same thought but now it is gone right along with 93 pounds!!!! Sending you big hugs and love on a continued recovery. You will be fine!!!

MommyLissa I know how you feel! I didn't have any pain until my incision got infected then I had pain when I bent over. I can't drink the protein supplements in any form. I have to have my throat or hole to my stomach streched for the second time Tuesday! So I am now wondering is it worth it? I mean I know that I could have possibly died! Would that be such a bad thing? If I did die then I would be with my best friend and out of the pain that I have experience for alot of years! That would be a blessing! To make a long story short it is all supposed to be worth it in 1 year, I sure hope so because I can't stand living like this!!! I am always feeling like I could throw up and I am so weak since I can't eat anything. I hope I am not too discourageing? I don't want to be but I want it to be truthful so you know that there are folks like me around who are not having a good time of it! My husband doesn't support me on this one like I had hoped. SO I hope things go well with you and don't let it get u down!  Have a nice day!

Snowy_Mitch,  I'm sorry to hear that you feel this way.  Of course it would have been a bad thing if you had died!  Think of all the people that would mourn you just like you are mourning your best friend.  I hope that when you have your hole stretched you won't feel like you need to throw up all the time.  Maybe then you can start feeling better.  Have you talked to your doctor about how you are feeling?  Maybe there is something else they can do to help you out.  I sure hope you get to feeling better soon!  Best of luck on Tuesday!  Melissa

Hi Melissa,  Oh YES, many of us have thought- "what have I done? Will it ever get better? Was it worth all this pain?" I know that this first 4 weeks are rough, some have it harder than others, ( my pain tolerance is low, so I felt alot of pain) but you can make it.  Please know you have a great support system in Linda & your hubby, and US! We all have experienced some bumps along the way. Call your Dr. and ask for something else for pain- there are many differant kinds out there. I hated the taste of Loratab ( even with flavorings) & ended on liquid Tylanol/codine. It was tolerable- but like any med. not too tasty.  Hang in there lil Sis, and know my prayers are with you.Make sure you sip those fluids & walk, it will keep you hydrated & helps with the pain, as well.

Been there, said that....the first 6 weeks seemed to be the hardest for me.. I would do it again tomorrow though. I DO know as awful as the Loratab is.. ya gotta get yourself out of pain so you can do the moving you need to do. Try splitting the dose up into say 4 with the grape juice.. no one says you HAVE to get it down in one swig... just sorta helps.. But you HAVE to do it YOUR WAY. This is why I LOVE this board.. you can vent ask a question and get several replys to choose from to help you thru the first weeks..No one says you have to try everyones solution but it was sure great to have different suggestions when you think how the H#@l and I going to get thru this.Remember I didnt just have to take the Loratab for my WLS but a year later for my New Knee and then again a year later when I thought I was going to die with the pain when my intestines got in a kink... each time the Loratab works it makes it that much easier to swallow the next dose...YOU are a survivor!! You can do this.. sometimes you just have to remember You can do all things thru Christ who gives you the strength... and believe me a size 18 or lower is soooo worth it after have been in a 32.Goals... think Goals!!Much love, Linda Kay
