Sat am I was awakened by severe pain in my left side , Back. So after about 2 hrs I 2 vicodin I went to ER. It seems I have a kidney stone they talked to a urologist & sent me home with loratab & instructions to call Urologist on Monday. If Pain gets worse call before then. You guessed it I had to call Sunday about 4:30 PM. So off to the Hospital again. They admitted me this time and after x-rays (again) said I wouldn't be able to pass the stone(s) too big. So Monday am off to surgery I go the used a laser to break it up and placed a stent in the ureter. I'm home now after 2 days of Morphine. I have to go to have the stent taken out in a week and this am they told me that they were unable to get the one stone. So they will address that in a week. One of the stones was 1.5 Centemeters in size!!!!! I don't know if that is the one that the broke u*****t.  So I will probably have to do this again. Just what I didn't need with the whiplash and asthma flare this month I may never get back to work!!  I have missed so much on the boards I'll have to get caught up later it's off to bed now. Cheryl, I feel your pain, believe me I do. That has happened to me 2 times in 9 months. The first time they had to surgically remove it because it was blocking the kidney and the doctor said that if he waited much longer I would lose the kidney and that isn't good for anyone but can be disastress for a diabetic. The first one was a few months before my wls. The next one occured 3 months after surgery. This one they got in time and pounded it to death. I was lucky because when they hit it the first time with the laser it broke into pieces. The urologist told me that he has never had it happen before. I was so lucky. I had the stent the first time and not the second time. The stent is the worse part of the whole thing. I hated that. I told the doctor that it was like sitting on a stick and he said he never thought of it like that but yes that is what it is like for us women. It was broken into such little pieces that I passed it and had no problem. There is medicine that can be given to you if you are going to be prone to them. After it is passed they take a 24 hour urine collection and they test it. I guess some stones can be helped with this medicine and others can't since there is different kinds of stones. Mine was calcium and that is why I have been taken off the calcium supplement. It is a good thing to tell you wls doctor about it if it is a calcium stone. My test results came back where the stone could be helped with the medincine but I also have a high ph level in my urine. I take 3 teaspoons of liquid Cytra K and a water pill for the ph level. I have to drink more now with the water pill and that is a pain in the butt but it beats another kidney stone. Now this medicine won't make it so that you never have another stone but it slows them down. The urologist told me that if I get them every year (and mine was sooner than that) it would postpone them to about 5 years. I told him that I would take it! Those stones hurt like h3ll and the last one was the worst. I had a morphine pump and also pain shots and the pain wasn't being relieved at all. It was terrible. With all the pain meds I slept and that is the only way I was out of pain. It helps if you have a wonderful doctor and hospital too. I have to say the doctors at Methodist here in Merrillville are very much into pain control and that is a BIG help. I wish you luck but make sure you talk to your wls doctor about the calcium since that is what they took me off because of the calcium stones. Check with the urologist about the test too. You remain in my prayers and know that there is an end to it. It just seems like it takes forever!

Cheryl,                Oh my goodness hon! If it's not one thing, it's 10 others! I do hope the stones start passing on out soon. I never had them in the kidney, just in the gallbladder so I can only imagine how much that hurts.Let's hope that the stone they couldn't get was small enough to evade them. Sounds good huh? Take it easy and know we are all thinking about you.         Sherri
