Did any of you have someone stay the night in the hosp. with you ? I ran into someone last night that said she stayed with her mother and was glad she did because St. V is a very busy place.

Hi, Nope, not me. They were wonderful !! I was so sleepy, I never knew when they left! I had my surgery later than I was scheduled so I ended up in my room at 8pm. By 10,I think, they had gone home. I feel they have a wonderful team of nursing staff- just depends on if you'd feel better having someone there with you. Either way, I wish you a successful, stress free surgery & recovery! Just remember to do whatever they tell you, sip, walk, and try your best to get your protein in. It's a one-day-at -a time thing, but you can do it!

My mom stayed with me the first night, but I think it was more for her peace of mind than anything because she was worried about me.  The nurses were very tentative to me, especially the first night.  I had a hard time coming out of the anesthesia and they kept coming in like clockwork to help me walk and check vitals and all that.  You definitely wouldn't HAVE to have someone stay with you.  Melissa

My oldest daughter stayed with me.  It was only because she has stayed with me in the hospitals over my last several surgeries.  She is in the healthcare field and just likes to be sure all is well with MOM.   St. V was the best hospital I have stayed at.  They were so good to me at every step of the way and the nursing staff on the floor were all very awesome.  They were right on top of things all the time.  The call button was answered very quickly anytime I needed to use it.   You would be fine alone.  It's just up to you how you would feel about it.  I enjoyed my daughter's company on my walks every two hours.  But I also met other patients that walked on my schedule too and walked with them as well. It's an awesome experience but don't worry.  They will take great care of you. Tracy

Nope..and last October when I was again a resident of the bariatric wing for about a week, no one stayed...and really it wasn't neccesary. Whenever I needed something, all I had to do was push a button and that was with me not being able to do anything at all by myself.

I didn't have anyone stay with me either.  However, I really didn't know it was an option!  I think my husband would have, but I also think it would have worried him to death.  I am one that has trouble coming out of anesthesia and this surgery was no exception!  I moan and groan and don't even realize I am doing it.  Would he have gotten any sleep.....NO!  It was in his best interests to go home and not to worry.  IMHO.

I did not.  I wanted my hubby to get a good night sleep at home.  The nurses were excellent, just a push of a button and there were right there.  The wing was full while I was there so I cant imagin it being any different any other time. I was so sleepy at night that getting through it alone was a breeze!

I didn't have any one stay with me.  You have nothing to worry about.  Every time I needed something they were right there. Carol
