Well I have my date for Surgery it is October 21st, my pre op testing is October 3, and my nut class is September 23rd. My quesion is does Dr. Inman have you do a pre op diet and if so can someone tell me what it is? Also I am assuming they will tell me at the nut class what vitamins and other things I need to get is that right? Where do you all get the chewable calcium pills? I have looked at a few places but do not see chewable.
I have all my testing in the morning on October 3 then see a Dr. Mick in the afternoon for a physical. Will they have all the results of my pre op testing and be able to tell me that day if everything is ok?
I have lurked for awhile so I know that I really dont need to take much with me, that I need to be walking so not much time for anything else.
Has anyone thought they would have the RNY lapo but then woke up and had it open. Dr. Inman told me she tries to do all of them lapo but when she gets in there theres a chance she will have to do an open RNY was just wondering.
Hi Andrea,
I don't know about Dr. Inman's pre op diet. Each surgeon is different in their preferences. I have found chewable calcium citrate at Wal Mart. Your nut class will fill you in on everything you need as far as vitamins, etc. Don't go out and buy a bunch of groceries you like pre op. You may not like the food post op. Personally I would suggest, chicken broth, some sugar free jello pudding, and popsicles, some milk. Don't get your protein supplement until post op if at all possible. You may not like it if you buy it pre op. Your taste and preferences can change after surgery.
YOu will not have your lab results the same day as the testing. Dr. Inman's office will either get in touch with you or they might say no news is good news.
Dr Cacucci said she starts all sugeries lap and goes open if needed. She said she's had less than 5 have to go open. You might ask Dr. Inman how many she's had switch when she's gotten in there.
You're correct you don't need to take a lot with you. You might want slippers, robe, and basic toiletries (wash your face and brush your teeth). I wore the same clothes home that I wore to the hospital ( make it something comfortable).
I hope this information helps you.

The only pre-op diet was liquids the night before, as I recall. I got chewable calciums from GNC. THey have a cherry tasting one, where it's part citrate and part carbonate. The nutritionists said that would be good enough. And as for being converted to open? I don't think that happens very often, but they probably give that 'disclaimer' to everyone just in case for the one or two it does happen to.
