It's really just a matter of sip sip sipping, and trying. I think almost everyone has a hard time getting everything in right away but it will come! I promise. Keep your head up and keep trying.

Do you have the sheet that St V's gives to mark off each oz of fluid??? I thought when I had my surgery there was a spot in there for meals..

My typical routine is:

Wake up
2 multivitamins and various asthma meds
drink
have breakfast (I can't eat as soon as I wake up)
wait the 30 mins, take my calcium when i start drinking again
snack
exercise
take 1 more multi and calcium
Lunch
fluids
snack
fluids
Biotin, B1 and B12 sublingual
protein shake
exercise
dinner
Iron
more fluids
bedtime snack
sometimes another protein shake it depends on my protein intake

My biggest thing is to make sure that I have water or fluids with me all the time as long as it's been 30 mins since eating. I was told I could drink up to 5 minutes before eating because I can't do 6-8 "meals" a day and get my fluids in too when I can't drink for an hour and take atleast 30-45 mins to eat.

Misty, You maybe were given different information than what I was given so you may need to call your nutritionist, but I was told at St. V's in Indy that you would not get the nutritional benefit from your vitamins and calcium if you took them within 2 hours of each other.  When I first had my surgery I took all 3 of my chewable vitamins at the same time in the morning and then I took all 3 of my chewable calcium at night.  My nutritionist said I would get the most benefit from spreading everything out.  So I take my first vitamin at breakfast and then put the next 2 in my pocket.  Then about an hour later I chew the next one, and one hour later I chew again.  After lunch as long as 2 hours has passed I start the calcium on the same hourly schedule.  Sometimes it doesn't work out and I end up at the end of the day with 2 vitamins left in my pocket, but that doesn't happen too often.  Good luck.  Karen

I made this schedule out for myself before surgery and used it from day one and I have been able to get all my proteins in since day one home.  As you get further out you can replace some of the protein in the schedule.  I am four weeks out and only do one and half protein drinks so I eliminated the one first thing in the morning.  Hope this helps you.

There is atleast 2-3 hours between them. It doesn't look like it but there is. :) I Just don't have a specific time that I wake up or go to bed so I didn't put times. Also I was told not to take the IRON and Calcium together never said anything about the multi and calcium (I use the Bariatric Advantage chewables and theres no iron in them). I have to space things out I cannot do more than 3-4 pills/chewables at a time and I have to take my asthma meds and stuff at specific times as well. Doh my brain just registered that I do do my one multi & calcium together. I'm going to email the nut and find out for sure but I'm almost positive its only iron/calcium.

Sweety,
HI!!! It is hard as heck at first to get it all in- remember the race between the Tortise & the Hare? SLOW &STEADY WINS!!! Don't expect yourslef to do it all correctly the first week- just do your best! I kept a DAILY journal to track everything- it helped each am. to look at how far I walked, sipped, & if I was able to get more protien ,water, walking etc.in the day before- it  gave me a sense of acomplishment .At first I could only make it up & down my street- which is only  5 houses.
Here are some things that worked for me-
8am-wake up & smell the -water! I couldn't stand my decaf coffee for 3 months- the smell nauseated me:-(
8;15 take first vitamen- I keep mine right next to my deoderant- don't forget erither!
8;30 breakfast
9 walk & take sippy cup -sip, sip,sip
10;30 protien shake
11;00 keep sipping & take calcuim
11;30-stop sipping
12 lunch
12:30 sipping & walking
1;00 Nap( followed by more sipping)
2;00vitamen#2
3;00 protien shake
4pm.calcium- do what I could around house- sip, nap, etc.
5;30 stop sipping-take vitamen#3
6;00 dinner
6;30 walk & sip take calcuim
8pm. protien shake
9pm. keep sipping- peeing( hee~hee!!) and relaxing with family
11 bedtime

I kept a sippy cup in sight with my fluids/protien in it to remind me to sip-sip-sip!(Yup, even took it to the bathroom!) Stop  1/2 hr.before & after meals- take vitamens & calcium as Karen said!( St. V's patients are advised to take them seperately- thruout the day.) My routine included a nap- or 3, hee~hee!! The first few weeks I got in the best I could the fulids- then it all  clicked about the 3rd. week out.You will do fine, just get into YOUR routine & stick to it! Sending you (((((BIG GENTLE HUGS))))))))))

It is extremely difficult in the first week after surgery to get everything in!!! My husband pushed and pushed me on everything i was supposed to do and i began feeling extremely overwhelmed!!
Now I take it easy!
I don't use the sippy cup anymore BUT I do sip all day long.
I take my pills all day long.. and I do mean that.. ALL day long.. it takes me that long to get them all down.

I line all the pills up on the counter for the day and just keep taking until they are gone!
The one thing I hate hate hate taking is the Carafate!
Ugh it makes me gag, im still struggling with that one!

Tisha, you might call your doctor and see if the carafate would loose any of its effectiveness by having a little flavoring added.  Then check with pharamacy to see what he had that was sugar free to add.  Just a thought.  Karen
