Anyone from NW Indiana?

So I had surgery almost 5 months ago. Been hanging out on the OH board (well, reading mostly), and thinking it would be nice to get to know someone nearby going through what I am...

Anyone in the area?  I live in Dyer - which is about 35 miles from Chicago, IL.

Hope you all have a great weekend, regardless of where you live!

Hi Paula, I live in Portage. So that isn't to far from where you are at. If you ever want to get together just give me a holler and we can meet somewhere inbetween where we are. Like Merrillville wouldn't be to bad. I will pm you with my phone number and then if you want to meet somewhere just let me know.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Hi Paula:

I live in Dyer too.  I'm in the appeal process.  I'm hoping to hear something this week.  I have a friend who had WLS in February who lives in HIghland, her name is EileenF.  She posts on the board sometime.

Hi Paula:  I'm friends with Janice who posted earlier.  I live in Highland and had my surgery in February so our dates are pretty close.  How are you feeling?  Have things been going okay since surgery?  I feel fabulous!  It's the best thing I ever did.  I had my surgery done by Dr. Stanish at Methodist.  I've lost close to 70 lbs. and I'd like to lose another 70, but to be honest I'm not going to mind if I only lose another 50 lbs.  I've already turned my health around 100%, including getting rid of my diabetes.  That's was the whole reason I did the surgery.  I sure hope things are going well for you.  Please keep in touch and let me know if you want to chat, etc.  Take care.

Hi Eileen!

I feel wonderful (thanks for asking!)!  I've lost almost 80 lbs and they say I should be 135, but I'm 5'8" so I think that's a little unrealistic!  I would like to lose another 50 lbs though and see how I feel when I get there.

I had my surgery done all the way in Elk Grove Village, because Alexian Brothers worked with my insurance company well. The only problem is, their support group functions are in Elk Grove too and that's just too far to go on a regular basis.  So sometimes I feel a little isolated.

I have two family members who had surgery - both are doing pretty well -- but they both lost a bunch and gained a little back -- still they look and feel really great.  So I'm hoping for the same kind of success.

I agree with you - this is the best thing I've ever done for myself.  It's really been interesting going through this process -- the way people treat you, and trying to cope with body image, food, parties, etc.  But I would do it again in a minute!  Thanks for responding - I appreciate the support!
