I know this might be a wierd suggestion

But I think i might bring some large containers of barely used protein to the exchange.
Some like the nectar protein and I can't seem to stomach it. But I bought 2 large containers of it postop thinking from the samples I tried that I would like it.  Found out after spending 60 on it that I can't stand it.  Maybe someone out there likes the nectar powder. If so, I'll bring it to the clothing exchange instead of throwing it away.  (throwing away 60.00 just seems wrong)
lemme know and I will bring it.  I might also bring isopure cookies & cream.  I can't stand to drink it, but I haven't tried to make it into icecream yet., if that doesn't work, then I will have a container of that too.

Jane...

That's what I had done with all of my proteins I couldn't tolerate. They all went!

The only thing I can tolerate is the Sug Free Carnation mixed with 2 cups skim milk & 1/2 cup of dried nf milk.  But I'm still looking.  I am going to pick up a package of the protidiet at my doc's office monday for my followup.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that I bought the isofemme chocolate powder that I really liked for my pre-op diet and can't' stand post-op.
I've tried the isopure drinks and can't tolerate those either.  I wish they had a protien that just tasted like water.  Or at least didn't have some goddawful aftertaste.  Ah well, guess I'll just have to keep looking.
I just don't trust the sample packs anymore.  I liked Nectar in the sample packets, bought it, made a shake with it and it developed an aftertaste.
I'm about to give up on the protein powders and just stick with the carnation until I don't have to do the protein shakes anymore.   I'm afraid I'm going to go bankrupt trying to find one I like.

I do understand. The only ones I can tolerate are the AchievOnes but I'm not sure how much I would recommend them to newbies since they do have a little bit of caffiene in them and caffiene can cause ulcers.

Good luck. You know...there's nothing wrong with sticking to the sf CIB mix if you like it. Afterall, it is what St. V's recommends to their new post-ops. If you like it & can tolerate it, I'd quit looking myself.

Ah caffeine, I really do miss it.
I wonder when I will be able to have it again.

I don't want to detour you from bringing your nectar to the exchange, but you haven't had your surgery very long ago and to be honest I remember nothing tasted good.  So in a month or two you might actually like it again.  I just want to let you know that just in case.

Stay away from it forever!!!. I firmly believe it was my return to caffiene that caused my perforated ulcer this summer. Our little tummys are built for caffiene. Just my 2 cents.

Jane,

As Linda said, you really should just stay away from caffiene. Especially as new out as you are. I discovered AchievOne's when I was maybe about 2 yr post-op....my pouch was well healed by that point. The caffiene in the AO's are suppose to be the equivilant to 1/2 c coffee (as per their manufacturer...I wrote them & asked). At the OH conference in Lexington there was a table set up where they were giving away bottle of it. I don't think they would have been approved to be there if it was bad for you.

About 2 yrs pre-op I had developed a condition if I drank too much caffiene that my eyes would both twitch. Everyone thought I was winking at them...lol. After cat-scans of my brain, it was diagnosed that I was getting in too much caffiene. I had to go down to NO caffiene at all, otherwise, the twitching returned. The caffiene in the AO's is not enough to bring back the twitching so I know that it's got to be a very low amount.

I would talk to your surgeon/nut about it after you are at least a year post-op. If they do give you the green light to add a LITTLE bit of caffiene, be sure you up your water intake. Caffiene can dehydrate you so for every ounce of caffiene you drink, you need 2 ounces of water in addition to what you already drink. So...64 oz of water a day...plus if you have a 8 oz cup of coffee, you have to have an additional 16 oz of water to make up for it. I drink ~100-120 oz of water a day. I know. That is hard to imagine drinking that much as new of a post-op as you are, but at 4 yrs out? It's not that hard at all for me.

Yeah, I've been trying to look at the caffeine the same way I did the smoking.  If I do it again, then all the withdrawal pain was for nothing.
