Significant Hair loss

Any ideas on what to do about significant hair loss? I'm 4 months out and they tested my protein and said it was okay and that some hair loss is normal. Well I'm not talking about some I have had a lot of it. They told me to take Biotin and see if that helps but I was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas. I boasted my protein intake back up to at least 60 grams a day also.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have hair down pastt my waist and I don't want to lose it.

Angel,

It really aggrevates me that they never tell anyone to get on biotin until AFTER they start losing their hair!  If it were up to me they would be telling people at their pre-op nut class to start taking them ASAP.

DEFINATELY run to the drugstore and get you a bottle of tablets with the most mg you can find! Take one a day. You should start seeing an improvement within 2-4 weeks. Then keep taking them. They are a b vitamin that are dissolvable in water (therefore, dissolvable in your tummy), and they are relatively very inexpensive. I had tried all the hair thickeners (nioxin, rogain for women, etc) and biotin is the only thing that helped.

Thanks so much for the encouragement, I'm taking it now but have to check with the Dr. tomorrow because they didn't tell me if I should take 1000 mg or 5000mg pills once a day.

Thanks again

I understand you dont want to loose your long hair but, the weight of your long hair is causing it to fall out also. I take biotin and cut off my hair and the thickness has come back. My face is thinner so I can pull off the short hair! Everytime I try to grow it out I start noticing more strans in the drain and on my clothes. Best Wishes

Thanks but my hair maybe be long but it's not thick or heavy especially not now. The length of my hair has nothing to do with it. I've had long hair all my life (I'm 47 now) and I've only cut it once during my lifetime. The thought of having to do it now is devistating to me, it's hard for others with short hair to understand how I feel but thank you for trying.

Thanks for asking this question!!!!  I am only 1 month post-op and have had some protein issues.  I have noticed a little of my hair coming out.  This is so scary!  I use to have GREAT hair and I lost a lot of it b/c of LUPUS.  I don't want to be bald.  I have tried other things also.  I am going TONIGHT TO GET THE BIOTIN!

I know it seems vain to care that much about your hair.....but I don't care.  I LOVE my hair.

I would try for MORE protein. 60g sounds too little to me. I thought we're supposed to have 75 minimum. My personal trainer always encouraged atleast 100g daily. It might help.

thanks the nurse said I was fine with 60 but I am trying to increase it. At my 3 month check up they told me that I was fine with getting 30 grams of protein a day. I just wished they had told me to keep my protein intake level up and to take Biotin to start with.
thanks,

Often you will see a thread go thru here talking about Biotin... I am with Sherry and WISH the NUTS would tell people FIRST about biotin... but that is why we are here... to share what we have learned.... your hairloss will help someone else...

I Know I HATE cutting my hair... no matter what I never like the haircut they give me..
