Went thru a seris of tests thinking I was having a heart attack.. Spent a couple times thinking I was going to die in the emergancy room and they didnt know what was wrong.. FINALLY thought it might be due to WLS and saw MY Dr... she did a endo then went in Lap and straightened out my intestines... Sometimes they leave a space called the Jameson space.. to much room where after eatting the intestines can get tied up into a kink. She went in lap and spread out my intestines and I havent had a pain since.  Hope this helps.. and Hope your not having the same problem... Dont go to ANY hospital that doesnt do WLS. GO to St V Carmel where you probably had it done.. they know how to take care of us where little County hospital I went to... almost made me worse.. they dehydrated me..

Hi Linda,
My best friend has WLS in Jan and has lost almost 100#. She was sick last week only to find out she had a twisted bowel on Fri and did emergency surgery.  Just wondering how common it is. Thanks for you info.

I haven't had twisted bowels, but I had a perforated ulcer this summer. I concur about going to a hospital that does wls, if you think there's a chance you have a wls-related problem. They won't know what to do with you at a 'normal' hospital.

I had KBS (kinky bowel syndrome) when I was 1 yr post-op. A CT scan was done, but I was told it would only detect the kinks IF they were kinked at the time of the scan. Mine weren't. Dr. Gupta did an exploratory, suspecting internl hernias. She found either 2 or 3 places that the intestines were getting hung up on and one area of scar tissue. There are a few places that the surgeons know that the intestines manage to kinky up into. I had heard that many of the surgeons started putting a few well-placed stitches in these known areas at the time that they do the RNY to try to prevent KBS from occurring.
