Apointment with surgeon tomorrow
Tomorrow is my one on one with surgeon! I guess after she See's me she will then write a letter to the insurance, and turn in all of the paper work that I have been getting together, and then wait on insurance for 2 to 4 weeks does this sound correct??
I hope to have surgery before Christmas

Sounds about right Sheila. I've been waiting on insurance since 9/24, and hope to hear soon. As busy as Dr. E is, I imagine I won't be scheduled till after the first of the year. When I went for the consultation on 9/8, they said they were already scheduling into November, and it's now a month later, so I imagine December will be booked up soon. So.... I have my hopes on shortly after the first of the year.

The time frame really depends on your insurance. Check in with them WEEKLY! My insurance was Cigna and I had to go to see a physician for 6 consecutive months, 6 support group visits, the shrink --turns out I'm NOT crazy in spite of what my older brother told me when I was growing up! The most important thing is don't get discouraged!

My surgeon's office said to allow 4 weeks before following up with the insurance - I have Federal BC/BS. I've already had the psych evaluation. They sent it in 9/24 - should I be following up?
Sheila - hopefully we will meet at one of the OH functions or at a support group! I wouldn't think I would be too far behind you surgery wise if it is approved. From what I understand, my insurance is one of the easiest to get approved as long as I meet their requirements - BMI over 40, and proven history of prior attempts at weight loss.
I know from the consultation that Dr. E's office is scheduling two months out, so whenever I get the approval, they are supposed to schedule it and let me know within 10-14 days, and the surgery is usually close to two months out from that.

Yes, you should be following up with your insurance. Call them and make sure they have recieved your file and that it has been assigned to the proper department. What if you wait four weeks only to call and find out that they didn't recieve the fax? Trust me, its not unheard of for the fax's to become "lost". Give them 3 days after the surgeons office fax's and call. You must stay extrememly proactive in your own care, do not trust that someone else cares for your health as much as you do.

Very good luck at your appt Shelia, I have said my prayers for you. 2 -4 weeks is right on target, make sure you follow up with your insurance and make sure your paperwork is where it needs to be. For me I had approval on day 15 after my paperwork made it to the insurance. That is 15 days not 15 business days.
