...because I always seem to be so negative when I post.
I went for my one week post-op yesterday and it went GREAT!!  She took out that horrid drain (she didnt know I still had it, she had ordered it out before I came home!)   I have lost an AMAZING 23 lbs the first week, so I am majorly pumped!!  My Dad took me, and I was feeling really good, so we decided to stop at the Brownsburg, IN Walmart on the way home.  Well, I felt fine going in and was just wondering around (my father apparently was doing some comparrison shopping for a Christmas gift) and I started to feel a little weak. I tried to HIde it, but my dad saw through it and we finished our trip pretty quickly.  I hadn't eaten for a few hours, and I wanted to try some cheese, so we got some of the little single serves and I slowly chomped on it on the way home (and i even managed to make it last the allotted time) I felt WAY better by the time I got home.
So, I got home and my sister insisted that I watch WALL-E with her (yay rah) so I did.  After it was over, I decided to eat anouther portion of chesse so I would have my 3 meals in for the day. Right as I was going to bed, I got a violent stomach pain and the worst nausea I have ever had.  I retched hard a few times, and then it subsided, so I thought it was nothing....WELL 14 hours later and about 5 "episodes" of the same sort later, i think it might be something.
I don't thinks its anything hospital-worthy, I 'm just really frustratrated because I fell like I can't go more than a few hours without feeling sick.  (I just want to feel a little better, but for the record, i NEVER regret my choice for WLS, even though at times it might seem like it)
I was wondering if anyone has expeirienced this first-hand or has ever heard of this happening.  i'm wondering if it might be conected to the cheese, that I might just be lactose intolerant.
I havn't ate yet to day, or hardly drank because I am afraid I will get sick again...ugh!
Sorry for the negatives...again.

Don't feel bad about the "negatives."  The negatives you listed seem pretty normal to me.  If anyone had talked to me the first MONTH after WLS they would have run!  The first couple of weeks was BAD.  I thought...."what the hell have I done to myself?"  I was hungry all the time.  I had a lot of pain.  I was not a happy camper.  So, this is normal.  I will tell you like everyone told me.....it will pass.

You HAVE to push those fluids though.  Dehydration is looming....and you don't want it.  You might already have some b/c it makes you nauseated and makes it hard to eat and drink....how silly is that?  But it is the truth.  DRINK, DRINK, DRINK!  If you can't eat don't worry about it so much.....just keep going on the fluids.  It will make you feel better.

Good luck and Congrats....you are doing GREAT!

Hi Katie-

Cheese for me was a hard one, it took months for me to do well with it.  It may be one of those can only eat it once a day type things, its pretty solid.  At a week out I was still on liquids, and even for the next few weeks I stuck to really soft food items. Cottage Cheese was about as solid as I got.

Unfortunatly everyone is a little different on what they can tollerate, and its a bit of a try and see game as to what works for you.  My only advice would be to stay as soft as you can for a while while following your nuts advise above all others.

Take it slow and I promise it will get better with time.

Katie,

Please don't feel like you need to apologize.  This is a place to share.  And if you are feeling negative, don't be afraid to share that.  There are so many people on here that are inspirational.  I am grateful each day to log on and have this fabulous community to share with.  Everyone has their bad days... weeks and for some like me, it feels like a bad year.  But the folks on here are STRONG!!! So that means that you are strong too!!  We wouldn't be here if we weren't .
I too had alot of nausea the first week or so.  I called my Dr and got a couple of prescriptions.  One was liquid phenegren and the other was a little dot that dissolves in your mouth. I think that was zofran.  Both helped.  I carry the zofran with me still.  I was bawling my eyes out wondering "why in the world I had done this to myself".  It was rough.
Remember to stick to your list of what you should be eating at this time.  Your new stomach is like a baby so treat it as such.  It needs time to heal.
You are doing great and do something nice for yourself. Go have a pedicure or manicure! You deserve it!
Blessings to you all, Leah

are you having problems with the protein drinks?  If you are then you might be lactose intollerant.  I went through a phase about 1 1/2 weeks out where I couldn't drink the milk, eat cheese, cottage cheese or yogurt without  several times after eating it.  I went off ALL milk products for about 2 or 3 weeks.  I tried a glass of milk with protein and I was fine.  I think our pouches are finicky when we first have the surgery...and wouldn't you be.  You've been made into a pingpong ball with an aspirin opening and you have staples... I mean really!

Take a couple of days without the cheese and see if it's causing you problems.  If your not sick during that time - its the cheese.  Make sure you drink a lot of liquid though because I struggled with that the first couple of weeks maybe longer.  You don't want to get dehydrated and end up in the hospital...or you'll have to suffer through that SF Jello they give you

Don't worry about the postings - we've ALL been where you are and we've ALL had the same thoughts you are having.  Hang tough honey the best is yet to come!
