Newbie meeting
St. Vincent's is having a Newbie meeting on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. Is anyone going to be there?
Has anyone been apart of this group before? I went to some support group meetings prior to my surgery but this will be my first post-surgery meeting. What types of things do they discuss? It seems ironic that the first meeting is the day before Thanksgiving, the biggest eating day of the year.
Lady J,
I went to the three I was allowed to go to. I found the meeting very informative as the dieticians are there to answer your questions. I also attend other support groups too. Give it try and see if you like it!

I went to one a couple weeks after my surgery and I found it to be a much smaller group than the typical support group I go to. Everyone there was recently post-op and there really wasn't a "topic" for the meeting. The dietician spent the entire time answering questions and giving advice for any complaints or troubles people were having.
We discussed getting all our protein in (including different ideas on how to do that) and some people had even brought in bottles and samples of things they liked so people could have an idea of what to try. We discussed vitamins, calcium, b-1 and b-12. We talked about walking and exercise. We talked about dehydration and the signs and symptoms of it. Aches and pains, and what might be causing them.
That's all I can remember at the moment. I personally felt like the meeting didn't do much for me because if I have questions or concerns I ask on here or contact the dietician/surgeon directly. I didn't learn anything at the meeting that I didn't already know, but that being said I wasn't sorry I went either. Hope this helps.
